We're so proud of our own April Mazzeo as the featured teacher for Great Minds!
In her 17th year of teaching, April came across PhD Science’s OER in 2021 and has been integrating more and more of the curriculum into her PK-3 classrooms ever since.
April comments on the program below, “The phenomenon-based learning and pulling them in with real-world art and connections to the outside world blows me away every time I introduce a new module/topic or even concept to my classes. The amount of hands-on exploration this program offers even to our youngest students helps reach all types of learners.
I think what other people need to know when they are implementing this program is that it is very intimidating at first and to take the time to look through and explore all the materials before you begin teaching. You need to remember to be forgiving of yourself if things don't go as stated in the manual/pictures. I mean science is all about trial and error anyways.
My administration has been fully supportive and on board with anything I choose to do which I think is a critical piece as well. Having everyone believing and working together is what truly has made this program successful at HVES.”

Every year, Mr. Koamaya's classes participate in his Great Engineering Research & Building Competition. At the end of last year, student Elliotte Farrington took home the award. Today, he was able to present her name on the Plaque, with so many other outstanding students from previous years.

What a great blitz we had around Adams and Cheshire! We hit up as many of you as we could, including a friendly dog (offered dog friendly ice cream), and the Town of Adams staff. Thank you to the Adams Police Department for helping us spread some literacy opportunities and cold treats through our school community.
