The Writing Center is officially closed for Spring 2023. Thank you so much for using the Writing Center this semester!

Don't worry--we'll be back on May 30th for summer tutoring 😉

Our last (but certainly not least) tutor spotlight is dedicated to Aidan, a General Writing Tutor!

"I am a History and Environmental/Field Biology major. This is my first semester at the Writing Center! I love working at the Writing Center because I've been able to meet so many people and I love helping others. In my free time, I play instruments, play video games, and hang out with friends."

Say hello to our Business Writing Tutor, Jack!

"I am an accounting major graduating in December 2024. I am an Eagle Scout from Wooster, Ohio. In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, and spending time with my friends."

We're giving a shoutout to our General Writing Tutor, Emily!

"Hi! I'm Emily Mixon and this is my third semester as a general tutor. I love working at the Writing Center because of my passion for helping others with their writing. I am majoring in Language Arts Education and in my free time I like to read and play Pokémon GO! I encourage everyone to stop by the Writing Center for help at any stage of their writing."

Say hello to Makenna, our Engineering Writing Tutor!!

"Hi! My name is Makenna, and I am an Engineering Education major with a Mathematics minor. I love to cook and bake and share what I make with my friends and family. This is my fourth semester in the writing center, and I am always happy to help with all your engineering writing and IEEE citation needs!"

We're giving a shout out to Taylor, our Law Writing Tutor!

"I’m currently studying law at ONU. I’ve worked in the writing center for almost 2 semesters. I enjoy working at the writing center because legal writing is a new style that most first year law students haven’t had the opportunity to work with yet. Being able to be a support to students and guide them through a new style of writing is an amazing and rewarding experience. In my free time I like to take my dog for walks, read, and try new recipes."

Say hello to our General Writing Tutor, Chrys!

"Hello! I'm Chrys Goldy, a third-year studying creative writing and philosophy. I've been with the Writing Center for two semesters now, and I love getting to work with my fellow students to make them feel more confident about their writing! When I'm not at the Writing Center, you can find me working at the Student Resource Center in Dukes, reading, or playing video games."

We're giving a shoutout to Sarah, our Engineering Writing Tutor!

Sarah is a Civil Engineering and Mathematics double major and has been working in the Writing Center for two semesters as an Engineering Tutor. Her favorite part of working in the WC is the uplifting environment and the support she receives from the other tutors and directors.

Our next tutor spotlight is dedicated to Cade, a General Writing Center Tutor!

"I am a P2, and I have worked in the Writing Center for almost 2 semesters. I enjoy working at the writing center because I enjoy helping people succeed academically. In my free time I like to hunt, hike, swim, and read."

Say hello to our Engineering Writing Tutor, Kaden!

"I am a Computer Engineering Major at ONU. I have worked in the writing center for almost 2 semesters. I am apart of several different organizations here on campus such as ACM and Polar Robotics."

Our next is dedicated to Murphey, a general tutor at the Writing Center!

"I’m a literature major and have been working at the Writing Center for almost 2 semesters. Outside of the Writing Center, I’m involved in the campus chapter of Sigma Tau Delta and Polaris literary magazine."

Our next is dedicated to our general Writing Tutor, Alexa!

"Hello everyone! I am a sophomore Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major. This will be my third semester at the Writing Center! I enjoy helping people develop their writing skills. Whatever kind of writing questions you have, I am happy to help!"

Say hello to our Law Writing Tutor, Grace!

"I am a motivated and ambitious second-year J.D. Candidate at Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law. I am a disciplined and detailed-oriented scholar with extensive leadership experience. In May of 2021, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with All University Honors from High Point University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sport Management.

My professional goal entails pursuing a career in the legal field where I can utilize my leadership skills and the knowledge that I have obtained from my education and internship experiences."

Our next is dedicated to Nadia, our Business Writing Tutor!

"I am an accounting major with a management minor. One fun fact about me is that I am a student pilot. I have worked at the writing center for 1/2 a semester and I’m excited to do my first full semester at the writing center!"

Say hello to Brad, one of our Engineering Writing Tutors!

"My name is Brad Hanely, and I'm a Mechanical Engineering major at Ohio Northern University. I've worked in The Writing Center for 2 semesters, and I like it because I can help people and improve my own writing as well. In my free time I like to golf, read, and watch movies with my friends and family."

Our next spotlight is dedicated to our Lead General Tutor, Maria!

"My name is Maria Nguyen, and I am a Pharmacy major with minors in Applied Statistics, Public Health, and Psychology. I have worked at the Writing Center for five semesters. The fun and welcoming environment that the Writing Center presents is one of the many reasons why I like working here. Something that I like doing in my free time is baking."

Over the next few weeks, we’ll spotlight our amazing writing tutors! Our first post is dedicated to our general writing tutor, Mallorie. Here’s her bio:

“My major is English Literature with a minor in Philosophy and Pre-law. I am also a part of the 3+3 program for law. This semester is my 4th working as a general tutor at the writing center. I enjoy working at the WC because of how flexible and understanding they are about schedules, and I also enjoy helping people develop their writing skills. In my free time I enjoy shopping, hanging out with my friends or boyfriend, and working out”

One of the fabulous Tutors of the Writing Center .

"Strength is not a measure of the weight we hold or the capacity to persevere alone. Strength is the courage to reach out and lift each other high."

Chrys Goldy shared words of wisdom at yesterday's Founder's Day celebration and inauguration of ONU’s 12th president, Dr. Melissa J. Baumann. Chrys is a Creative Writing and Philosophy student who inspired us all with their poem. Way to go, Chrys!!

The Writing Center is closed for spring break! We’ll be back Monday, March 20th.

We hope everyone has a restful break! 🧡🐻‍❄️🖤

Our next featured writer is Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000). Brooks was the first Black author to win the Pulitzer Prize and the first Black woman to hold the position of poetry consultant to the Library of Congress. Some personal favorite poems: “Sadie and Maud” and “Speech to the Young”

In honor of Black History Month, the Writing Center will be featuring Black writers throughout February.

Our first featured writer is Jason Reynolds! He found inspiration in rap & began writing poetry at 9, but he didn’t read a full novel until he was 17.
