Jami Watson, a 2025 graduate, has been awarded a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She is one of 42 student-athletes recognized across all NCAA divisions for outstanding academic performance, athletic achievement, and community leadership.

"Throughout my time at ECU, I was presented with many great opportunities, both through athletics and academics,” said Watson.

Watson plans to obtain a Master's in Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University.

In May, 12 students led by Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya traveled to Washington, D.C to visit Slavic cultural sites in the heart of the country and to highlight centuries of cultural and political cooperation between the United States and Russia.

Trips like these offer unique experiences for students and strengthen their understanding of the world around them.

The College of Education and Psychology is debuting a new online Master of Science in Sport Psychology in the Fall!

“The Department of Psychology is thrilled to offer the only graduate-level Sport Psychology program in the state of Oklahoma,” said Director of Sport Psychology, Dr. Beau Leaf.

This unique program, offered at limited universities across the nation, is designed for students of all backgrounds, whether an athlete, athletic staff member, coach, counselor, sports administrator or teacher. The program will aid in developing expertise in sport psychology and in gaining the educational credentials to apply to be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).

East Central University will close in observance of Independence Day on Thursday, July 3rd. Offices will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday, July 7th.

ECU’s Linscheid Library and the Tommy Hewett M.D. Wellness Center will also be closed for the holiday. They will reopen to their regular summer hours Monday, July 7th.

As a reminder, ECU’s summer hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Tommy Hewitt Wellness Center hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. with pool hours 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

ECU’s normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday will resume in August.

“This is a degree designed to prepare students for job opportunities in a diverse range of fields that involve human behavior,” said Dr. Marc Klippenstine, chair and professor for the Department of Psychology.

Students will learn to analyze situations through a psychological lens, draw on appropriate psychological research and transform their knowledge into actionable solutions.
