We do recover! In this study overall, 11.1% of the sample reported ever having a substance use problem, which translates to approximately 27.5 million adults in the United States. Of those reporting a substance use problem in their lifetime, 74.8% reported that they were in recovery or recovered from their substance use problem, translating to approximately 20.5 million adults in the United States.

Today is The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day. The aim of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy; providing evidence-based, voluntary services for all; offering alternatives to punishment; prioritizing prevention; and leading with compassion. The campaign also aims to combat stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs by promoting language and attitudes that are respectful and non-judgmental.
