We are proud to announce that all three of our elementary schools have received recognition from as a 2023-24 Distinguished Launch School. PLTW recognizes schools across the United States for their efforts to provide broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through PLTW Launch programs, an elementary STEM curriculum. Our school has shown a great commitment to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs!
Mrs. Baldwin's Fourth Graders completed a STEM Challenge last week after they read the play, "Undercover Patriots".
We are so proud of you!!
Congratulations to Jackson Collins for qualifying for state in Smash Brothers! Way to go Jackson!
Our students love Lego robotics! Great job guys!
Byng students learn the power of robotics The program teaches elementary kids the basics of robotics β from construction to programming.
Mrs. Presley did a fun Science lesson over the water cycle with Mrs. Ardrey's kindergarten class this week. Mrs. Presley is a 5th grade science teacher at Byng Elementary and she is also Connor's mom!
Great job Byng Elementary Lego Robotics!
Last week, fifth graders learned about AIR! They learned that everything is made up of matter and that includes air, which means it also has mass. They experimented with some balloons and found that the mass of an inflated balloon was more than a deflated balloon (even if it wasn't by very much). Then, students created a model of a hot air balloon to show how temperature affects air particles and allows them to float.
Look at these talented 8th grade genetic researchers!! β€οΈπ΄ββ οΈπ
βWhoβs the folks?β Students in Mrs. Willoughbyβs 8th grade Science classes have been on a genetic quest trying to determine each of their chicks parents.
Mrs. Brown's Pre-K learned about measurement and pumpkins a couple of weeks ago.
Please vote and support this wonderful Byng student.
Please go vote for this wonderful project! You can see it hanging in our hallway.

Congratulations to these boys for earning their TSA Statesmen Award. These are the first TSA awards earned by BJH.
Mrs. Wallis' 3rd Graders worked with water molecules and a penny to better understand cohesion. The students were amazed that their hypotheses were so far off. There was one penny that held 83 drops of water.
This week, students in Mrs. Presley's 5th Grade learned about the Scientific Method, independent variables, and dependent variables. They used a Skittles investigation to determine how the temperature of water affects the time it takes the Skittles to dissolve.
Mrs. Trimble's first graders worked together to design a program for Rosie the robot dog to get her bones, avoid mud puddles, and make it to her dog house.
Oh NO!!!!! Good thing Mrs. Aspey's Class was around to "Save Fred." Poor Fred's boat capsized, and he was stranded on top of his boat! Mrs. Apsey's problem-solvers worked in teams to figure out how to save him. The students had to use paper clips to flip Fred's boat back over, put his life preserver on, and put him back in his boat. However, they couldn't touch anything with their hands. They could ONLY use their paper clip.
Mrs. Reed's Class learned about flight this week. During their science investigation, they used new vocabulary, asked questions, planned, imagined, and brainstormed how they could get their airplane to fly farthest.
We love seeing our students completing STEM projects at home. The learning never stops!
Feel free to send or tag us in your own STEM projects.
