🌟 Student Spotlight🌟
This week we are highlighting senior Abby Cruser, a double major in finance and accounting. Abby is actively involved across campus through mentorship, student organizations, and competitive athletics, making a meaningful difference in every space she’s part of.

Here is more information on the top three teams from this year’s Polar Innovation Exchange.

🏆 Veil Haven Jewels
Ava Bateson (Business), Brianna Brewer (Business), Emersyn Gerken (Business), Alexa Lane (Business), and Shelby Tope (Engineering) created a stylish safety charm bracelet designed to blend fashion with personal security. The bracelet connects instantly to Life360 at the press of a button, alerting trusted contacts and emergency services when needed. It also includes functional charms such as an alarm, compass, and pepper spray, making it a discreet everyday safety tool.

🥈 Word Wizard
Ethan D'Souza (Engineering), Logan Frazer (Engineering), Jeremiah Koenig (Engineering), Aiden McManis (Engineering), Collin Snider (Engineering), and Owen Willoughby (Engineering) developed Word Wizard, a handheld device designed to give non-verbal individuals a simpler, more reliable way to give clearer speech by using programmable "Smart" cards. By tapping a card to the device, it instantly speaks the selected word, requiring no screen, no internet, and imposing no limitations.

🥉 Safe Sip
Brayden Bayles (Engineering), Jacob Haney (Pharmacy), Leah Orr (Engineering), and Christopher Ritchie (Engineering), took third place with their stainless-steel tumbler that provides a safe approach to drinking hot liquids. The device features a built-in probe that checks the beverage’s temperature and provides clear, intuitive feedback—displaying a green light when it is safe to drink and a red light when it is too hot.

We are super proud of our students and the creativity, innovation, and hard work they brought to this year’s competition. Congratulations to our top three teams!

The Spring 2026 Polar Innovation Exchange took the stage. 💡🐻‍❄️

The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration proudly hosted the Polar Innovation Exchange elevator pitch competition on April 22—a campus tradition since 2009. This spring, 77 teams and 311 students from across Ohio Northern University brought their ideas to the stage.

🏆 Veil Haven Jewels earned first place with a discreet, stylish safety charm bracelet designed to connect instantly to Life360 and alert trusted contacts and emergency services when it matters most.

🥈 Word Wizard claimed second place with an assistive communication device designed to empower individuals who are unable to speak.

🥉 Safe Sip secured third place with an innovative temperature-monitoring cup designed to improve everyday safety and comfort.

From concept to pitch, this year’s competition showcased the ingenuity and drive of students across Ohio Northern University. The future of innovation at ONU is in motion.

Members of the Ohio Upsilon chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Economics Honor Society, recently developed a tri-fold poster for public display in the Ada Public Library in recognition of National Financial Literacy Month.
