You may have heard of spoon theory (see the comments if not), but what about fork theory?

It was thought up by Jen Rosenberg, a disabled, neurodivergent person who derived it from the phrase: "Stick a fork in me, I'm done."

The theory posits that we all get spiked with metaphorical forks of various sizes, until eventually we reach the limit of what we can take. The result can be meltdown, shutdown, or another form of withdrawal.

Forks can be anything that has a negative impact. They may be small things like not remembering where you put things, or someone making a snarky comment, to big stuff like being in a car crash or losing your job. (Though everyone has their own perspective on what counts as small or big.)

Forks accumulate all day long, and eventually you reach the fork that finally does you in. It may appear like a small thing to those around you, but the gravity of the individual situation really doesn't matter if you've reached your limit.

The size and number of forks you can tolerate each day will vary depending on how many spoons you have, which in turn is based on a whole range of factors like how much sleep you had, how stressed you are, pain levels, general health, your mood, what you're doing that day, etc. The unification of the two is known as spork theory!

Our ALC community begins meeting again Feb 8!

You still have time to hop on a call with us to see if this is the right fit for your teen.
(Ages 13-18)

Do they need connection and hands on learning alongside their peers?

Want to make friends and do cool things?

Learn to play well with others while maintaining their own boundaries? Learn to communicate about consent with the people in their life?

A place where they can learn the toughest thing if all…set goals, fail and iterate. Because there really is no failure, only feedback. Come navigate life in community with us.

We have all of this covered in a fun, engaging space filled with support and challenge in just the right amounts.

Our teens get to navigate life and learning together! Teens can do hard things and have fun doing it!

Send us a DM if you’d like to schedule a call to get connected!

You can even take us for a test drive and pay week to week until you realize that it’s exactly what your teen needed all along.

This is a challenge style immersion into robotics using LEGO as the tools to teach basic design and strategy thinking. Totally open ended with goal oriented tasks to keep the students engaged. They learn the basics of building and controlling a LEGO bot to accomplish an outcome. And, as always, the best learnings are in the challenge and “the failures.”

My favorite part is hearing and watching the learners tell about their challenges and all the things they tried to “fix it” as their robot navigates the obstacle course successfully on the last day of class.

Register by sending us a message now. Class starts Thursday 4/8

One of the fun things about face to face school meetups during covid...our learners have developed an in person Among Us game including tasks. So much fun to watch them interact.

Want to know what we do here? We love your children right where they are. We give them the time and support to find who they are and dream again.

Is your child jaded, checked out and uninterested in life? Do they have big dreams but no action plan? Have they given up? Are you at the end of your rope trying to help them?

We can support them and you on the journey back to joy. Reach out and schedule a discovery call to see if we can help.
