Hey students, it's that time of the year again - midterms! Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Fear not! Here are some quick tips to get you through finals feeling triumphant.

📚 Create a study schedule you can stick to.
📚 Choose a quiet, comfortable, and well-lit space free from distractions (including your phone!).
📚 Summarize concepts in your own words using strategies like flashcards, mind maps, and practice tests.
📚 Try the Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes of study followed by a 5-minute break.
📚 Don’t forget to eat well, stay hydrated, exercise, and get enough sleep.
📚 Study with a group of dedicated classmates to get different perspectives and help clarify doubts.
📚 If you’re struggling with certain topics, don’t hesitate to ask for help!

Curious about what "Test-Optional" really means? Colleges with a Test-Optional policy allow your student to decide whether or not to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of their application. Test-Optional is a good option for some students who struggle with testing, but the data suggests that students who submit scores are admitted at higher rates. Determine your student’s testing plan in just three simple steps:

1. Take a diagnostic SAT and ACT to understand where they’re starting.
2. Look at the average test scores at colleges that interest your student.
3. Determine whether it is ‘reasonable’ to earn a competitive score. Most students can expect to improve their SAT scores by about 150 points or their ACT scores by about 4 points.

Many students submit test scores to some schools, but not all. Once your student completes their testing process, they can make case-by-case decisions about where to submit their scores.

Tutoring and academic coaching are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct differences.

📚 Tutoring is often subject-specific, while academic coaching focuses on building skills that help in all areas of learning.
🧠 Tutoring focuses on understanding and excelling in particular subjects or preparing for tests like the SAT/ACT, while academic coaching focuses on time management, organization, study habits, and strategies to be more effective and efficient.
🏆 Tutoring is great for overcoming specific academic hurdles or boosting grades in challenging courses, while academic coaching is perfect for students who want to develop skills that will benefit them throughout their academic career and beyond.

Whether you choose tutoring for specific academic challenges or academic coaching for overall skill development, Open Door Education is here to support your student’s educational journey. Let's unlock their full potential together!

Massachusetts state education officials are sounding the alarm on a critical issue: the "staggering" rates of chronic absenteeism among students, still echoing from the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing 10% or more school days, has skyrocketed by 72% since 2019. In 2019, 13% of students were chronically absent. By June 2022, this number nearly doubled to 29%. Though there's been a modest improvement, the rate still hovers above 22%.

Commissioner of K-12 education, Jeff Riley, announced a $4 million initiative to track absences and work with families to improve attendance. Chronic absenteeism is linked to more than just learning loss. It's associated with higher dropout rates and disciplinary issues. Regular school attendance is crucial for student mental health and overall well-being.

🎯 Reduce stress
📈 Track progress

📆 Ensure the final deadline is met

Grab a notepad, your favorite task management app, or a good ol' whiteboard. List the project's main components and break them into smaller, actionable tasks, each with their own deadline. It's the path to turning your ambitions into achievements, one step at a time!
