Making tomato based summer soup with perfectly ripe tomatoes. The beauty on the cutting board is the striped German heirloom tomato and is a delicious mild creamy tomato.

Pepper the pupper is a great Friend at the farm to farmer Kate. For example, sometimes he poses with a wagonful of harvest veggies. However, sometimes he can also be a foe, for example, when he eats said veggies before his humans do (tomatoes, berries, and brassicas-especially kale and broccoli). Obviously, his good looks outweigh his mischievousness. 😆🐾
Friday Friend or Foe- horticultural edition! Do you know what this flower is? Goldenrod! And it is a FRIEND! The biggest misconception about goldenrods is that they cause allergies- which they DO NOT (that is the underwhelming ragweed flower).
There are about 25 different goldenrod species in Massachusetts which bloom from July through October and support loads of pollinators, butterflies, spiders, beetles, etc. Because it is one of the latest blooming flowers, it is an important end of season food source for many insects.
We plant goldenrod in and amongst our veggies and fruit, as well as at perennial garden edges to support as many different insects as possible. There is a large stand of Early Goldenrod in bloom right now in the raspberry patch and the buzzing sound there is phenomenal!
We will have some goldenrod plants available for purchase soon if you are interested in creating more pollinator havens in your yard too!
