chess.com and lichess.org
comparative review
1. chess.com is commercial web site bombarding you with ads and offers of paid services, whereas lichess is non commercial focusing purely on chess
2. most users of chess.com are beginners, whereas most users on lichess are advanced players
3. chess.com has 10x more players than lichess.
4. both are powered by stockfish open source chess engine but chess.com limits you to how many analysis you can do. (For free users its once per day) I recommend you do analysis yourself using stockfish and Tarrasch UI
5. a lot more online tournaments happening on lichess.
Winner: lichess

How chess engines help students train for chess
take a look at the picture below. A chess GUI (Tarrasch) is being connected to chess engine (stockfish). When you setup a position to practice on, you play against the engine. The engine does dynamic assessment of different game options and ideally your game assessment is neutral or slowly grows in your favor. If engine suddenly changes position assessment that most likely means you have made a mistake - tactical or strategic.
Chess rating with corresponding kids ages and years of training
level 0 beginner - unrated, ages 4-8, entertainment level
level 1 rating 200-600 ages 6-7, 1 year of training
level 2 novice 600-1000 7-8, 2 years of training
level 3 intermediate 1 1000-1200, 8-10 3 years of training
level 4:intermedate2 1200-1400, 10-12 4 years of training
level 5: advanced 1400-1600, 12-14 5 years of training
level 6: expert 1600-1800, 14-16 6 years of training
level 7: advanced expert 1800-2000, 14-16 7 years of training
level 8 master: 2000-2200 , 16-18 8 years of training
level 9 international master: 2200-2400, open, 9 years of training
level 10 grandmaster: 2400-2500, open, 10 years of training
level 11 super grandmaster: 2500-2800, open, 11-12 years of training
level 12 world champion 2800+ , open, 14 years of training
the ranking reflect relative strength among your peers and are also exponential - to go up to next level it takes 10x more work as get to previous level
Everything is expensive nowdays. Even homeless chess hustlers on harvard sq who used to play for $2/game wont play for less than $10 nowdays
A kid is asking me to play. What is your rating i say. He does not know. I dont play in tournaments he says. He is asking for my rating. 2300 i say. Impresive says kid and puts $10 on the table. Sorry, i dont play with amateurs for money
Nonetheless, kid quite professionally beats a group of tourists challenging him making $100 in 20min.
