Beginning THURSDAY, 8/13, ALL vehicles must have a CAR LINE TAG displayed from the rearview mirror during dismissal. 🚗🏷️

📌 Car line tags will be coming home TOMORROW, 8/12!

When you receive your tag, please:

✍️ Write your child’s FIRST & LAST NAME
🖤 Use BLACK INK
🔠 Write BIG & BOLD in the CENTER of the tag so staff can easily see it.

🚫 Please DO NOT use pencil or light-colored markers.

As local schools get back in session, St. Tammany Fire District No. 8 wants to remind our Abita Springs and surrounding communities to keep safety at the top of mind! With students back on the road walking, biking, and riding buses, a little extra caution goes a long way toward keeping everyone safe.

Here are a few essential tips to remember as the school year starts:

🚸 For Drivers & Commuters
Slow Down in School Zones: Watch for lower speed limits and flashing yellow lights. School zones require extra attention and patience.

Stop for Yellow Buses: 🚍

Flashing Yellow Lights: Indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Slow down and prepare to stop.

Flashing Red Lights & Extended Stop Arm: Drivers traveling in both directions must come to a complete stop until the lights turn off and the stop arm retracts.

Watch for Crossing Guards: Always obey crossing guards directing traffic near schools and busy intersections.

Eliminate Distractions: Keep your eyes on the road and put away mobile devices—especially when driving through neighborhood drop-off points or school zones.

🚶 For Students & Pedestrians
Look Both Ways: Always stop at the curb, look left, right, and left again before crossing any street.

Use Crosswalks: Whenever possible, cross streets at designated crosswalks or marked intersections with crossing guards.

Stay Visible: Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of vehicles to ensure they see you.

Wait for the Bus Safely: Stand at least 10 feet back from the curb while waiting for the school bus to arrive.
