Heart Attack
In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.
Every year, about 805,000 people in the United States have a heart attack.
Of these, 605,000 are a first heart attack
200,000 happen to people who have already had a heart attack
About 1 in 5 heart attacks are silent—the damage is done, but the person is not aware of it.
Choking
Of the 3,000 people who died from choking in 2020, 1,430 were older than 74. Food is often responsible for choking incidents in the elderly.
Choking is one of the leading causes of unintentional death for infants, who require a different rescue procedure than adults.

So I just finished teaching a CPR class today. During the class it was brought up about a new drug to fight the opioid epidemic. I said I never heard of the drug. The drug is called kloxxado.
While the name sounds new, after looking up the drug, it is in reality just a double dose of 4mg narcan nasal spray. It has total of 8mg of naloxone(narcan).
While the marketing team did a great job. You can accomplish same thing with 2 nasal narcan you may already have.
The part I found interesting is that we ( First Responders) give 4mg nasal per our medical protocols, and give additional dose as needed. So if you are giving 8mg are you really wasting money. As you can typically turn a person with 4mg nasally. When I first started doing EMS, we use to give .4 to 2mg IV and it woke them up every time.

This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Narcan, 4 milligram (mg) naloxone hydrochloride nasal spray for over-the-counter (OTC), nonprescription, use – the first naloxone product approved for use without a prescription.
Naloxone is a medication that rapidly reverses the effects of opioid overdose and is the standard treatment for opioid overdose.

A great client follow up on my CPR course from last week. This made my day.
"Hi, The instructor Chris Walsh was "Wonderful". He was informative, supportive, made everyone feel comfortable, made sure we were all confident in our instruction, patient, and so important he was friendly. For the first time the teacher were relaxed enough to ask questions, and he was helpful. We were not rushed, had us do a two minute cpr, which was eye opening to learn the difficulty of doing it for two minutes. He shared a lot of resources of an aed, supplies etc.
Thank You,

New CPR business cards have arrived....

During Heart Month, the AHA is focusing on CPR to improve the cardiac arrest survival rate through lifesaving skills education and training.
According to the most recently published scientific data, about 90% of the 350,000 people who experience a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital each year will not survive. Less than half of people receive the immediate help that they need before professional help arrives. To help close this gap, the AHA is challenging every household or family to have at least one person who knows CPR, to Be The Beat for their family, friends and their community.
With much emphasis on CPR this month, we anticipate continued interest among members of the public who want to take CPR and First Aid training. Therefore, we encourage you to make sure your class listings are up to date.
Thank you for all that you do in support of our lifesaving mission.
To schedule a class, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Chris Walsh

You cannot obtain an AHA CPR certificate completely online.
You can do blended system, part online and part in person.
But if a website offers course completely online, it's fraudulent. Yes you will learn about it. But the credentials are not there if required by state.
But you need an instructor in person to observe and correct mistakes to obtain a card from AHA or Red Cross. I am certified to teach both.
