Help individuals in our community find their voice. ❤️

Local Speech-Language Pathologist Victoria Blevins joined us to share why the demand for Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants (SLP-As) is so critical right here in our region—and how you can fill that need!

Through Virginia Highlands Community College's Associate of Science in Health Sciences (SLP-A Advising Pathway), you can start your foundational coursework here at VHCC and transition into an almost entirely online partnership with Longwood University.

This pathway prepares you to sit for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification exam, opening the door to a high-demand allied health career with strong earning potential. Watch the video to hear Victoria's take on why this work matters so much, and learn how you can enroll this fall: https://www.vhcc.edu/health-sciences-advising-pathway-speech-language-pathology-assistant.

Starting your journey at VHCC allows you to gain valuable credentials or transfer credits without carrying heavy student loan debt along the way.

Leslie “Brooke” Rhymer knows firsthand exactly how far a foundation at Virginia Highlands can take you. After receiving a high school scholarship to attend VHCC, Brooke jumped into the Criminal Justice program—a move that allowed her to balance a local job with a flexible class schedule while benefiting from tight-knit classroom environments.

After earning her Associate of Applied Science from VHCC, Brooke went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from King University, followed by a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University.

For local students weighing their higher education options, Brooke’s takeaway is simple: “Take advantage of the opportunity to save some money and start college at VHCC. I have never regretted that decision once.”
