Last week was a fun, educational, and eventful week at Emory & Henry University! Our Juniors and Seniors officially took over dorm life and went on a time-travel journey back to the Great Depression. Along the way, we learned what it truly takes to chase big dreams, build a business, and stay resourceful. Safe to say we’re now pros at both entrepreneurship and the lost arts of sewing and canning pickles! Thank you to the Moonlite Drive-In Theatre and to Stormbrew Farm for the excellent information and experiences you gave our students!

Who says learning (and work) can't be fun?!?!
From canning and community service to learning about entrepreneurship and farming, Upward Bound did it ALL today.
And the pride these kids took in their work? Well, it was nothing sort of outstanding!
What a great group of kiddos!
Thank you, Stormbrew Farm! 🥕🥒

Finished the week strong as we got to see a Model-A Ford, Math and English toured the William King Museum of Art, and then we had to have a rock-paper-scissors showdown between Math and Science for the weekly trivia winner. Justin came through with the win for Science!

We traded the classroom for the fast lane at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum! 🏁From breaking down the science of speed to burning rubber on the simulator, yesterday was an absolute rush.
Here is how we spent our Road Trip Wednesday:
🧪 NASCAR Chemistry: Mastered the science behind the speed.
💼 Career Exploration: Discovered high-octane jobs in the industry.
🛠️ Engineering Challenge: Built custom model cars and race tracks.
🎮 Simulated Racing: Went head-to-head in a high-speed digital race.
🔧 Pit Crew Challenge: Experienced a high-pressure live pit stop.

Time travel mode: activated! 🚗 This week for our Dare To Dream: 250 Years of America series, we stepped right into the Roaring '20s with the iconic Model T Ford!
Today, our crew got hands-on with some real-life auto maintenance skills (thank you Danny Thomas) and explored how Henry Ford's legendary assembly line changed everything. We wrapped up the day with a deep dive into crucial budgeting skills—learning exactly how to manage money as the high-flying '20s shifted toward the Great Depression. Talk about lessons that stand the test of time!

This week, our Dare To Dream: 250 Years of America time machine landed right in the early 1800s! Fun fact: the very first camera was invented in 1816. To celebrate, our students are stepping behind the lens in an awesome photography class with Valerie Booth! Stay tuned—student masterpieces are dropping soon! 👀
But wait, there’s more! We also launched our very first Book Club with David Burns. 📖 The students are diving deep into "Washington DC: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure." Let's just say... things are getting beautifully weird! 🏛️🤪
