Due to impacts from yesterday’s storms, Walden Road in Abingdon remains closed from Stanley Street to Branch Street.

Families and staff traveling to E.B. Stanley Middle School and Abingdon High School should plan their routes accordingly and allow extra travel time this morning. Abingdon Town Police will be in the area directing traffic; however, delays are expected.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as crews continue to address storm-related impacts.

🥎🏆 Celebrating the Abingdon High School Lady Falcons Softball Team!

The Washington County School Board and Washington County Board of Supervisors were proud to recognize the Abingdon High School Lady Falcons Softball Team this evening for capturing the VHSL Class 3 Softball State Championship!

Through hard work, determination, teamwork, and perseverance, the Lady Falcons put together an incredible season and brought home a state title that made our schools and the entire Washington County community proud.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and supporters on this outstanding accomplishment. Way to go, Lady Falcons!

Hello, Falcon Families!

We are excited to welcome everyone back tomorrow! Here are a few important updates before the start of the school year:

**🚧 Thompson Drive Construction**
Construction continues on Thompson Drive as work progresses on the new roundabout. The Town of Abingdon, VDOT, and Jones Construction are working together to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible during school arrival and dismissal. Construction crews will **not** be flagging traffic between **7:00–8:30 a.m.** or **2:30–4:00 p.m.**

**🌿 Landscaping**
As part of the construction, our landscaping has been disturbed. Please excuse our appearance while work is underway. Once construction is complete, we look forward to updating the landscaping along the front of the building.

**📚 Student Schedules**
To balance class sizes and accommodate our growing student population, some adjustments have been made to the master schedule. As a result, some student schedules may have changed. Students should check their student portal tomorrow morning for the most up-to-date schedule. Printed copies will also be available in the Guidance Office.

**📖 Standards of Student Conduct**

A few reminders regarding the dress code:

* Clothing may not contain profane language or images promoting illegal, violent, or inappropriate behavior, including weapons, drugs, alcohol, to***co, or other controlled substances.
* Midriffs must be covered.
* Clothing covering private areas must be opaque and should not reveal undergarments.
* Clothing must be appropriate for all scheduled classroom activities.
* Hats, hoods, and other head coverings are permitted as long as faces remain clearly visible and the school or classroom does not restrict them.

**📱 Cell Phone Policy**
Please review the Student Cell Phone and Smart Device Policy with your student. Abingdon High School will continue to enforce our **"Bell to Bell"** cell phone policy.

**🎓 Seniors with Online Classes**
Only seniors in good standing who have submitted their signed permission form may leave campus for approved online classes. **All students should report to the classes listed on their schedules on the first day of school. Attendance will be taken.**

**🍗 Tomorrow's Lunch**
Tomorrow's lunch includes:

* Crispy or Spicy Chicken Patty on a Bun
* French Fries
* Green Beans
* Fruit
* Milk

**🚗 Student Parking Passes**
Student parking passes have not yet arrived. We will notify students as soon as they are available. Parking passes are **$5**, and all student vehicles must be registered with the school and display a valid pass. Registration forms are available from **Mr. Greene**.

🍎 Welcome, 2026-2027 Student School Board Representatives

We had the pleasure of welcoming our new Student School Board Representatives this afternoon with a luncheon as they prepare to serve as student voices on the Washington County School Board during the 2026-2027 school year!

*Patrick Henry High School: Zen Moser
*Holston High School: Payton Long
*Washington County Career & Technical Education Center: Zayne Bolen

💪🏆 Congratulations to Abingdon High School Strength & Conditioning Coach Chase Nunley on receiving national recognition from the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA)!

Coach Nunley was formally recognized at the NHSSCA National Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after being named the NHSSCA Region 8 Coach of the Year earlier this year.

The prestigious award recognizes outstanding leadership, program development, and impact on student-athletes throughout Region 8, which includes 13 northeastern states.

As the NHSSCA Virginia State Director, Coach Nunley has been instrumental in advancing high school strength and conditioning across the Commonwealth. At Abingdon High School, he has built one of Virginia's premier strength and conditioning programs, fostering a culture of discipline, accountability, and excellence while helping develop hundreds of student-athletes.

Since the program's launch in 2018, Falcon athletes and teams have achieved remarkable success, including multiple state championships across a variety of sports. The program has also earned national recognition as an NHSSCA Program of Excellence.

Congratulations, Coach Nunley, on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for your continued dedication to the students and student-athletes of Washington County Public Schools!
