We humbly ask for prayers for the family and friends of Hunter Patterson and Brett Underwood who tragically passed away today.
Please keep all of those impacted by this heartbreaking loss in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. We are praying their families find comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead.
With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the death of Abilene Firefighter - Hunter Patterson. FF Patterson and his friend Brett Underwood, were involved in an off-duty, fatal vehicle accident early this morning, Friday, May 15, 2026. Both men passed away.
This is a devastating loss for Hunter’s family and our department. Hunter was a respected and beloved member of the AFD for 11 years. Hunter leaves behind his wife and children, as well as numerous other family members and friends. The loss of both men has greatly impacted members of our department. We ask that our wonderful community keep both families in their thoughts and prayers, while also respecting their privacy at this difficult time.

Training That Feels Real—Because it is!
This week, our paramedic students in Abilene tackled geriatric respiratory scenarios using our incredibly realistic LifeCast mannequins. Cast from real people, these simulators feature lifelike skin, weight, and proportions—making every scenario as close to the real thing as it gets.
From assessment to intervention, our students are building the confidence and skills they’ll need as they head into clinicals next semester—and they’re rising to the challenge!
We’re proud of the work they’re putting in to become the next generation of EMS professionals.

Enhancing Student Readiness through Instructor-Led Simulation
Real-world EMS isn't just about clinical skills—it's about human connection. To bridge the gap between the classroom and the ambulance, TSTC EMS instructors utilze lifelike masks during training scenarios.
By having an instructor wear these realistic overlays, we create a "standardized patient" experience that manikins simply can't match. Students must navigate the complexities of a live patient’s emotions and physical appearance while managing life-saving interventions.
This innovative approach to paramedic education is just one way TSTC stays at the forefront of emergency medical training.
