Baby it's HOT outside! Remember, that exclusively breastfed babies (not started solids yet) don't need extra water to keep well hydrated, but they may need more frequent feeds. Babies do nurse for thirst! How do you keep your little one cool on these hot, muggy days?

This pink tent, the "Baby Pit Stop", will once again be at the Central Kansas Free Fair. A place for all moms with littles to rest, change, feed or just take a breather - it has a changing table, portable AC units, chairs and supplies in case you forgot something. Thanks again to the Community Foundation of Dickinson County for supporting this project five years ago!
We got through day 1 of the Trails, Rails and Tales event in Abilene. We will be available tomorrow as well. Tents located on north side of the grounds.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women’s Health (OWH) wants your help to learn about your experience as a new mom. They want to learn how to make it easier for new moms to get help if they feel pressure with a new baby and other life issues. They are looking for new moms to take a survey about their experiences. If you are a woman who has had a baby within the last year and you are willing to answer questions about your experience as a new mom, you will be helping other moms in the future. The survey will take about 20 minutes. If you are willing to help, please click on the link https://forms.gle/dgiRYiGdHt2FX4mp8 - or paste it into your Web browser - that will take you to our sign-up form.

What is Breastfeeding on Cue? Did you know that babies breastfeed for a wide variety of reasons—with hunger being just one of them?

I've drawn this graphical representation for clients around 6 times in the last couple of weeks, to illustrate how most parents imagine the pattern of breastfeeds in a newborn will look like over a 24 hr time span (every 3 hrs) versus the reality, (lots of feeding, some long feeds, some short feeds, some ling gaps, some feeds closely spaced.) Babies do not feed like clockwork every 3 hours, yet most of the new parents I am seeing have an expectation that they should. Some are getting themselves into a panic when baby sleeps longer than 3 hours (trying to wake them with a wet flannel), or giving them infant formula when they show feeding cues less than 3 hours after a feed.
