One thing you learn quickly as a parent is how quickly emotions can escalate. 😮
When your child is
upset and you need to get them to do something, remember it won’t happen if they are in 'survival brain mode' ‼️
You have to help them feel safe, calm down and regulate their emotions first. ❤️
Important Note : YOU aren’t effective when you’re highly emotional either ❗️
Take several slow and deep breaths. Regulate yourself, even if that’s just stepping into the hall for a moment.
Drink some water or hot tea… (believe it or not, nothing insanely bad is going to happen at that moment).
Just calm yourself down first ❗️❤️
Once you feel level-headed and able to think clearly you can help your child much better.🙌
Raising a child is tough. It’s much harder when you have a traumatised child… 😳
Always remember that when they have “the big feelings” they really do need you.
Whether or not those feelings seem to be justified by anything, it doesn’t matter. Your child legitimately feels that way, and it's up to us to be there for them. 😍

This week our focus is on is the "Power of Attention" which states: "What I focus on I get more of." With that in mind, our "Conscious Commitment" is: "When I am upset, I will take a deep breath and switch my focus from what I DON'T want to what I DO want children to do. I will tell children what I want them to do and why. My 'why' will be related to safety." (Read more on pg. 123 of Conscious Discipline: Building Resilient Classrooms book.)
Are you willing to commit? If so post "ImWillingRU" in the comments! ⭐️ As always, we wish you well! #iHeartCD #consciousdisipline #consciouscommitment #mondaymotivation #powerofattention
