There are so many stories to tell... legacies to honor... journeys that we can learn from.

As a Director of Marketing for one of the largest Senior Living Companies in the US, I soon realized that by being the first point of contact with families I often heard their untold stories, struggles and emotional journeys. I heard the legacies of who their loved ones once were before they were brutally robbed by Alzheimer’s Disease. They were the last Buffalo Soldiers, first car dealership owner, newspaper editor, school teachers, nurses, veterans. They were important members of society. They are mothers, fathers, friends, siblings, aunts, uncles, wives, husbands,

Once they became residents of Senior Living their stories of who they were became important stories to know. Enough has been ripped away from them so preserving their integrity and dignity became my top priority. Their caregivers need to know just how important each individual is. Why it was important to comb their beautiful silver waves of hair, keep their clothes tidy, put on their jewelry they treasured...why the Veteran needs to put on his uniform once in a while and wear it to dinner.

In 2017, I continued my education and became a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer. I plan to use this documentary toneducate and remind caregivers of the priveledge of caring for those with Alzheimer’s Disease or any form of Dementia.

We will be creating a very raw emotional documentary. You will hear real stories of the legacies, the long journeys and the beautiful souls and legacies remembered by loved ones.

If you’d like to donate to the funding of our project or have s story to share about your loved one... please contact us at [email protected]

A lot of folks have asked if I’ve quit Consulting (because I’m also teaching holiday craft classes and selling jewelry).

I have not quit at all. I am actually doing all three.

If I feel passionate about it... I do it!

Use these helpful Communication Tips when celebrating Thanksgiving with loved ones with Dementia. Talk to them frequently about where they are and who they are with. Reminisce about past holidays and make sure there’s a quiet place for them to rest as the hustle and bustle of the holidays may increase confusion.

This time of the year is when some family members are faced with the realization of the disease. Everyone reacts differently. Give them time to see and accept the changes in your loved one.

May you have many blessings in life. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! Jenn
