Lessons from the Longarmer
#1 - When to starch and not starch!
I tell my customers all the time to use a dry iron while piecing and this video demonstrates why. I want really crisp pressed seems and I used to piece then spray either a bit of water or starch on my pieces and press the seem allowance but my blocks were always either wonky, too small or both and this is why. If you want crisp fabric to piece with, starch BEFORE YOU DO YOUR CUTTING.
I want to add this: I do not usually starch my fabric at all but this project by Laundry Basket makes it necessary because of how very tiny the piecing is in each block so I am starching it a little before I cut my pieces.

Super excited and proud for Deborah Niccum as well! Her quilt that I quilted got second place in the Stars Over Abilene Quilt Show. Photos do not do it justice. It is an Ethiopian cross that she designed and pieced for her husband and I had the great honor of getting to quilt it for her. It has 3/4” squares and 1/8” strips meticulously planned and pieced. It’s a true work of art! Congrats Deborah! We make a pretty good team!!

I’ve had customers get blue ribbons for their quilts that I’ve quilted for them but never a blue for my work alone. Super proud and honored to be chosen by the quilt show visitors and vendors. Thank you!!
So so Proud of our girl Jana Bailey from our own SEW Quilting studio receiving 1st place viewers award and Vendors award at the Stars over Abilene Quilt Show this weekend!! We all know she is fabulous and now everyone does!! She’s the BEST!
