The Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation is thrilled to announce a recipient of this year’s District Collaboration Grants, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and fostering community engagement within our schools.
Aberdeen Central High School, which will receive $10,000 in funding from the Foundation (and matching funding from the Aberdeen School District) to help purchase a grand piano to ensure students have access to professional-quality instruments. The current grand piano, manufactured in 1969, is a Steinway & Sons “Teflon Era” model and no longer meets the instructional and performance needs of the Central High School music program. Aging components and limitations in sound quality affect both daily instruction and public performances. A new grand piano will enhance student learning, support performance excellence, and strengthen the school’s ability to host concerts, contests, and community events. The estimated cost of the new grand piano is between $50,000 and $100,000.

As our seniors step into their final week of high school, we’re celebrating this incredible group and all they’ve brought to Aberdeen Central Show Choir, Show Band, and Vocal Jazz. The memories, friendships, performances, leadership, and impact they’ve made will stay with us long after graduation.

Grand Piano Challenge!!!

A generous and anonymous Golden Eagle alumnus has established the Grand Piano Challenge and will match donations up to $10,000 through August 1, 2026 for the new grand piano at Aberdeen Central High School!

The current grand piano at Aberdeen Central High School was manufactured in 1969. It is a Steinway & Sons “Teflon Era” model and no longer meets the instructional and performance needs of the Central High School music program. Steinway pianos produced between 1962 and roughly 1981–1986 (often called the "Teflon Era" action) used Teflon bushings instead of traditional wool to reduce friction. While designed for stability, these pianos frequently developed clicking noises and sluggish actions due to the wood contracting around the inert Teflon, particularly in fluctuating humidity.

The piano’s aging components and limitations in sound quality affect both daily instruction and public performances. The goal of the new piano purchase is to ensure students have access to professional-quality instruments that support instruction, performance excellence, and community engagement. The cost for the new piano after trade-in is $41,000.

Partial funding for the piano is being provided by the Foundation’s District Collaboration Grant and matched by the Aberdeen School District. Mark your calender to get your seats for the last performance for this year's music dept!

The Pops concert will be held on May 5th, 7:00 pm at the CHS arena. Reserved seats will be sold for $10 each. Open bleacher seating will be sold only on the night of Pops.

Pre-sales for the Pops concert start on April 28th by the theater at CHS. We will also be selling Kiwanis cards for $10 each and will have a free-will donation jar to help fund a new grand piano for the music department.

Each ticket holder will receive a soda and a box of popcorn at the concert.

We open the sales to Senior students first since it is their last concert.

Seniors (bring school ID) will begin at 6-6:30pm.
After 6:30pm-7:30 Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen (with ID) can purchase up to 10 tickets each.

Parents - please bring your student's ID for presale.

If you cannot come to the presale, tickets will go on sale at the CHS school office with Shelly Sutton.
