Central Park Co-Op Preschool's board members, teachers, and parents work together in a cooperative setting. Must be 2 by August 31. It is currently not a class for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. However, in a typical year, the parent stays with the student and participates in activities with their child. It's a introduction class and Miss Alyssa works on fundamentals of proper behavior in class, arts, crafts, and academics. The Toddler class goals and objectives are:
•To learn the concepts of classroom behaviors
•To learn the importance of manners and sharing
•To become part of an organized group of learners
•To learn appropriate behavior while interacting with other children
•To learn routine
•Beginning to identify colors and shapes
•Beginning to identify letters and numbers
•Beginning pre-writing skills with opportunity to practice writing letters
•To learn ability to sit quietly through story time
•To increase language development through interaction, sharing, and song
•To begin exploring different forms of art medium
•To strengthen fine and large motor skills in play
The 2-Day class is for 3-4 year olds (must be 3 years old by August 31st). Miss Alyssa teaches this age group and meets on Thursday and Friday mornings from 9:00am-11:00am. Miss Alyssa teaches this age group with these goals and objectives in mind:
•To become familiar with the routines and expectations of the school
•To learn to be part of a group outside own family
•To learn to take turns in conversation and play
•To learn appropriate behaviors when playing with others
•To recognize own name in print and spell first name
•To identify colors, shapes, numerals and some alphabet letters
•To understand and recognize quantities to 5
•To count to 10 objects, one at a time
•To sort and classify objects according to similarities
•To attend to a story being read or to the task at hand
•To increase language development
•To enjoy the sounds of language through stories, songs, music, and rhymes
•To develop coordinated large muscle skills
•To strengthen small muscles in hands and fingers
•To explore a variety of art media
•To increase perception of similarities and differences
•To develop self-management and self-help skills
•To practice observation skills
The 3-Day class is for 4-5 year olds (must be 4 years old by August 31st). Miss Alyssa teaches this class as well and they meet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 12:00PM. Miss Alyssa prepares this age group for Kindergarten with these goals and objectives:
•To reinforce the concepts they’ve learned previously, whether in the 2-Day Class, at home or daycare
•To establish kind and respectful attitudes and appropriate behaviors
•To begin recognizing first and last name in print
•To write own name, numerals, alphabet letters
•To learn the sound of each alphabet letter and words that begin with that sound
•To recognize the sounds, patterns , and rhymes of language through literature and music
•To understand and recognize quantities to 10
•To count objects one at a time beyond 10
•To recognize and create repeating patterns
•To estimate and compare quantities and sizes
•To encourage creativity in storytelling, with construction toys, and use of art media
•To learn more about ourselves and others and the world around us through Science and Social Studies units and Field Trips within the community
•To promote strength and coordination through movement games and outside play
•To engage in small motor activities that promote strength and coordination in hands
•To promote language development with a wide variety of opportunities to verbally express themselves
