Megan Rowland started out as a Sandcat years ago and has been wrestling since she was about 5 years old. Now a Junior in High School, she wrestled this weekend at the NC USA Freestyle State Championship and won the Girl’s 110lb Junior Division with the help of Coach Josh Stanley from Combat Athletics and her brother Matt Rowland (also a former Sandcat) who now wrestles in college for Gardner Webb. Congratulations Megan! Once a Sandcat, always a Sandcat!

For the couple of days leading up to the State Tournament we will be spotlighting our State Qualifiers! First up, Megan Rowland! Good luck, Megan!

Megan had a great time at the University of Mount Olive Wrestling Women's Folkstyle & Freestyle Camp this weekend! It was exciting to see so many great female wrestlers together in one place! Megan had so many amazing partners including HS and College All-Americans, State Placers and Champs and it was an awesome camp experience for her! Thanks Coach Dan Willis and Coach Troy Bell for putting it together!

I am calling on all NC wrestling parents, wrestlers and wrestling fans to help advocate to the NCHSAA to allow some wrestle backs at Regionals and States, and placement to 6th place at States. There are kids' dreams on the line here and I think it is worth fighting for. If you agree, I am asking for your help. At this point many States have done the full tournaments under worse conditions than where we are now. However, I am told that NCHSAA will not go for a full tournament, but there may be a chance to do wrestle backs after the first round if we have a parent push asking for it in light of the loosening of mask restrictions and CDC guidelines, and what other States have done. It has been suggested that an email campaign, followed by phone calls in a few days may make a difference. Contacts should be:
