Our 4-H Poultry Auction will soon begin accepting bids for the birds raised by our 4-H'ers in the Pullet Chain. All potential buyers must register before bidding.

The link below will take you to the auction site where you may register as a buyer, view the lots, and ultimately place your bid. The proceeds from the auction are what enable 4-H the ability to offer this project to our youth. Bidding is scheduled to open on November 8th. Yesterday, McCormick County Chamber of Commerce celebrated Women in Business. This annual event presents the Women in Business Award of Excellence ~ Crystal Diamond Award to an outstanding woman who is a leader advocating for McCormick County.
This year’s recipient has achieved numerous accomplishments in her 13+ years in her leadership role. She is a rare gift to McCormick County and all of its residents. She is a role model for the young and old. She leads by example; is always open to new ideas and willing to assist the community with just about anything.
Not only is she gifted in science, technology, and program management, she is catering, compassionate, and cares for children which is critical for our community. She is a partner in many organizations in our community and her involvement varies depending on the group.
Our very own, Jaime Pohlman, is the first to step up, the last to stand out, by her own design, and always represents not only McCormick, but Clemson, and our County brilliantly. Whatever the task or project, she accomplishes it with grace and goodwill.
Congratulations Jaime!!!

We were so excited to get to host all 3rd graders from all of Abbeville County today for our Farm City Day. Students were able to learn about various parts of agriculture including: apiculture, horticulture, forestry, pigs, rabbits, goats, wildlife, dairy cattle, horses and poultry as well as 4-H and SNAP ED and even got to enjoy a hay ride.

We are so appreciative of all our volunteers who help make this event a great success each year as well as the Abbeville County Farm Bureau and, of course, the Abbeville School District for allowing us this opportunity.

Announcing the Annual Abbeville Extension Office Berry, Fruit, Nut, Shrub, and Tree Sale

Once again we are happy to be able to offer this sale! Having made sale process changes last year we are going to continue with some of these news practices. One change, that greatly streamlined our process last year, is that all sale activities will continue to be handled electronically. No paper forms will be accepted and all payments must be made online when the order is submitted. Also order pick up will be preassigned, like last year, by placing an order you agree to pick up orders on a preassigned day and time. There are a couple changes this year too that are the result of operations at the nursery that supplies our plants. Due to necessary cost reductions at the nursery some plants are not being offered this year. But most of the usual favorites are still available. Second due to labor constraints the orders will not be available for pick up until January 2022.

Below are the sale list/prices document and an order form. Review the items listed for sale and after making your choices, enter the requested information on the order form. Once you enter a sale item on each line of the order form, including quantity and unit price, the total for that item is calculated for you and a subtotal for the entire sale is shown near the bottom of the form. Enter only one type, variety, color (if needed) and size per line. Once all of your items are entered and based on your subtotal you will enter the appropriate handling fee amount. Then your purchase total will show at the bottom. You will need to save the document to later reopen it to enter your sale order number. Please save the document by doing “Save As” and adding your last name before “2021 Order Form” (i.e. Last name 2021 Order Form).

To make your payment you will need go to this link: https://bit.ly/abbetree21

You will enter the requested personal and payment information including the total from your sale form. Once the transaction is complete, print your confirmation to bring with you the day you pick up your order. You will need to reopen your order form and type in your order number in the space provided. Then save and print your order form to bring with you also when you pick up your order. (The login step in the payment process can be skipped by entering your email and clicking “Checkout as Guest” at the bottom of the page.)

Once these steps are completed email your order form to Vicki Steele at [email protected]
She will be compiling all the orders and sending them to the nursery to be filled and shipped to us for you to pick up. You must email your order form with order number included to her. She will be comparing order numbers to payments received before compiling the final order to the nursery. Please note that you are responsible for any mistakes found in order total/payments. All orders and payments must be received by Monday November 15th by 5:00pm.

We will send a reminder email approximately two weeks prior to picking up your order. Order pick up dates are January 12, 13, and 14 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. You will be assigned a date and pick up time in this reminder email. Remember to bring your printed confirmation and order form with you for pick up. We will meet you upon arrival on the pre-set pick up day and time. We will ask you to show us your paperwork, confirm you are on our list, and then we will assist loading your order into your vehicle. Please check your order when you arrive home. We will be able to refund any shortages reported after pick-up, but cannot get replacement plants. THESE PLANTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED.

We appreciate your participation in our annual sale. We thank you for your patronage and support of the Extension Service. If you have questions about the items for sale or sale process contact either Tom Brant at [email protected] or Adam Gore at [email protected]
