Celebrating our February birthdays today! 🎉🎂
This week in Garden/Stem Club we dissected a seed to look at the seed coating, embryo, and cotyledons. Each student also placed two seeds in a wet paper towel to dissect after winter break, hoping to see how the seed begins to form inside. Once we finished with the seeds we had a paper airplane contest, comparing construction paper to copy paper.

Grades 2-6
Lucy from the 4H Clemson Extension Office came to visit 5th grade today. She taught food webs and developed a model to describe the movement of matter. They focused on important vocabulary such as producer, consumers, decomposers, carnivore, omnivore, herbivore, and scavenger. She also taught the importance of having a balanced ecosystem and what can happen if something becomes extinct or overpopulated.
Garden/STEM club planted spinach in their greenhouses they made out of recycled milk jugs. Special thanks to Jill Kulp for teaching this lesson.
