Seventh surgery, death and persistent abdominal complications.

With hours left to the end, my 2023's thorny moments started their pinch with a seventh surgery on me at Mulago National referral hospital on Jan 5 before discharge on Jan 13.

I had been rushed there from Surgeons Plaza in Kololo where I was taken ill from a 2022 Christmas party with friends in Kampala. That latest illness resulted from the amateurish and bungled five surgeries taken on me at Mengo hospital between September and October 2020. A sixth surgery by Dr. Masiira at Kololo had been administered in December the same year.

However even with a seventh surgery more work remained to be done which called for further attention abroad. Mulago’s Dr. Jombwe referred to a doctor where attempts to restore me to normalcy continues.

BUT as the year ended, on December 28, my mother-in-law, Mrs Norah Kizza, a charming lady who dedicated her life to loving and caring for others, breathed her last and has been laid to rest at Kabale in Rakai. The grief in my heart is heavy because mama was a close friend who has always encouraged me to live positively through the tough health complication. Mama Kizza died within just hours after developing nausea. Condolences to the bereaved family and may Mama's soul forever rest in eternity.

2023 has been a tough mountain to climb, one with thorny shrubs and sharp rocks all from the foot to the highest peak but it also went with significant achievements.

With just hours to close off the year, we continue to hang in there, hoping that beyond thorny shrubs and sharp rocks, the sun will shine brightly, providing light at the end of the dark tunnel of 2023.
