OXFORD NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL:
Located in Wakiso district, 5km from Kampala the capital city of Uganda in East Africa. It's a charity founded school for the less privileged pupils and orphans. Our purpose is to help less privileged children aged 4-14 years, acquire ba
sic skills and practical education, to live in a wonderful world. We started in 2013 with 50 children, currently we have 300, these are accommodated in five structures, three temporary and two permanent blocks. MISSION:
To help Children develop practical skills so that they become self reliant citizens by creating jobs through capacity building . VISION :
Aspire to inspire before we expire by promoting self reliant future citizens in the country. OBJECTIVES:
1 .We promote zero tolerance of all forms of violence and child abuse.
2 . We promote and protect children rights more so the girl child who are more vulnerable.
3 . We provide care and support, reducing the vulnerability of individuals, communities to HIV and alleviating the impact of the epidemic
4 . Teaching girls and boys ways of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/ AIDS.
5 . Ensure that adolescent girls and boys have knowledge and means of preventing HIV- AIDS spread.
6 . Ensure girls' primary education and women literacy.
- Ensure child to child education.
- Promote small scale enterprise skills for self reliance. We have a child to child club at school.Child to child is a program which teaches older children how to help and teach their young ones.It is an international program started in the international year of children in 1979. ACTIVITIES DONE UNDER CHILD TO CHILD EDUCATION.
- Caring for children who are sick.
- Playing with young children.
- Helping young ones to care for their teeth and general personal hygiene.
- Helping the disabled children.
- Older children take young ones for immunization.
- Helps children to develop their talents.
- Children learn their rights and respect for them.
- Children realize that they can play a big role in the development of the nation because they are the pillars.
- Creating a powerful world for the underprivileged children. Many children come to school on empty stomachs and torn clothes.There are bright children but can't continue with school because they lack school fees.
2- SEA SCOUTING:
We have a sea scouting club at school. It’s a program which introduces all related scouting skills to children of all age groups. This club was initiated by Uganda Sea Scouts Marine (USSM-Department) affiliated to Uganda Scouts Association which is the official body of scouting movement in the Republic of Uganda. Tasks of Sea Scouting club;
- Introducing scouting training to all age groups.
- Introducing swimming training to all age groups.
- First aid training.
- Talent exploration in disabled children.
- General personal Hygiene (Health in children).
- Helping the disabled children.
3. Charity campaigns.
- Community Sanitation
- Immunization
- HIV/AIDS awareness
- Environmental protection measures like planting trees
Tasks of Charity campaigns;
- General cleaning of the Community.
- Sensitization of children and the community about STD’s/AIDS prevention measures.
- Physical training through introducing a couple of games/sports like cycling, running, Foot/Netball, Modeling/sculpture among others. Every school activity has a club for efficiency and these include; sea scouts club, Entrepreneur's Club, Child to child club, Science club , Intercultural club and the Scripture Union, Environmentalists ( Nature) among others.We try very much to train children to be self reliant by teaching them what is not tough in schools. GENERAL BENEFITS:
- Child to child helps to teach children who have not yet gone to school.
- Teaches children who may never go to school.
- Older children provides a channel through which young children can reach the world beyond school.
- It encourages cooperation and sharing a among children.
- Children share skills and knowledge.
- Teaches children that giving is better than receiving. They learn how to help the needy than caring about oneself. CHALLENGES:
- Many children come to school on empty stomachs and torn clothes.
-Bright children don't continue with school because of inadequate school fees.
- Temporary classrooms leak whenever it rains.
- Some children have chronic diseases hard for the school to meet their medication costs.
- Transportation for children who come from distant places is affordable without a van.
- Lack of adequate scholastic materials.
- Inadequate materials for sea scouts trainees.
- Inadequate girls' sanitary facilities. SOURCE OF FUNDS:
