Instructs: East African Politics Since Independence
In East African Politics Since Independence, students are challenged to look beyond simply asking, “What happened?” and instead explore the deeper questions of why events happened, how they shaped East Africa, and what they mean for the realities of the region today.
The course is framed by the question: “What happens when a country wins its independence, but the struggle for power is only beginning?”
Through this lens, students engage with the complexities of power, politics, and independence while connecting the past to East Africa’s present.
