Afterter controlling for factors like s*x and age, the researchers found that individuals who drank one drink a night for 10 years or two drinks a night for five years were 5 percent more likely to get a variety of cancers, including gastrointestinal, breast and prostate. One drink was defined as a single glass of wine, two-ounces of whiskey or 17-ounces of beer.

A study from researchers in Japan found that even moderate amounts of drinking alcohol can increase cancer risk.

Yesterday, with Dietmar Klahn and Ulrike Klahn we explored life in a therapeutic community. Synanon, has withstood the tabulant history that saw closure of many self help groups in Germany and continues to shine for Europe, offering holistic recovery to whoever knocks their door. Clients are assigned work in and out of the centre, can stay as long as they want and mothers are allowed to check in with their children! Their only option is total abstinence from all mood altering drugs; the the first I have encountered in Europe not to allow cigarette smoking. They have 95 residents (former users) and all seemed busy and and happy. 30,000 people are believed to have gone through this facility with various amazing recovery stories.
