The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology today joins the entire global world to celebrate the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY. We recognize the efforts and commitment of intelligent women in our country who have contributed to the advancement of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). In a very special way, we congratulate the leadership of our faculty dean Dr. Theodora Twongyirwe together with other female faculty engineers (in the attachments) for the tremendous work they have done for this alma mater as we strive towards academic excellence. We also wish to celebrate all our female engineering students at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology upon choosing this career path with great ambitions to enhance developments in society through engineering. The department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering is privileged to announce the receipt of 2 grants.
1.A 3-year seed grant award from ICATCH aimed at “Integrating Basic skills in Biomedical-Engineering into Pediatric-Nursing at Mbarara-Regional-Referral- Hospital, Uganda”.
This project will help the BME department to work very closely with the pediatric department to reduce equipment faults and improve usage. We hope that this will grow to other departments within the hospital as well. We thank the HOD biomedical engineering department, Mr. William Wasswa who will be leading the implementation of this project together with Mr. Bulondo Fredrick and Dr. Johnes Obungoloch. We are also grateful to the leadership of the Faculty led by Dr. Theodora Twongyirwe for the support.
2. A one year grant from welcome Trust, Public Engagement Fund Grant. "Unpacking Design Thinking Principles Through Biomedical Engineering Student Innovation Cafes".
This project will enable the biomedical engineering students to assess the needs of people living with disabilities by working closely with them. This will enable the students design solutions suitable for the people with disabilities. The project will also facilitate setting up of a design studio to foster innovations at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology. We are again congratulate the HoD, Mr. Wasswa William ( Dr. in making) for the tireless efforts to bring teamwork in the department of Biomedical Engineering. We congratulate the whole BME team, the Dean FAST, the grants office, the office of the university bursar and the internal audit for the support.
