Yesterday I posted the amazing results of our Students at LIA Christian Secondary School. In today’s Ugandan newspaper I see that we were the 8th best school in Masaka District and 276th in the whole country! That puts us in the top 8% of Ugandan Secondary schools.
When we started we said that we wanted to provide city quality education in the forest to give students the best possible start. We are getting there! Well done to pupils, staff and sponsors what a team at Love in Action.

Uganda has now moved into a 42 day shutdown. On Sunday evening the country was instructed to close all schools from 8am the next morning. All our children have gone back to their homes.

As part of the shut down all travel between different districts (counties) is banned so most of our teachers quickly returned to their homes, leaving a skeleton staff to look after the school and farm.
This epidemic is having a devastating effect our the children and young people of Uganda, many have not been to school for over a year, and have been sent to stay with relatives or have decided not to return to school and are looking for work.

Many people have moved from Kampala (the capital) out to the villages over the last three days in crowded busses so our team are very concerned that this influx will bring Covid to the villages.

Please pray for Uganda and all our staff and young people.

Please help us to keep the schools open

Schools in Uganda are reopening following the COVID19 shutdown since March. We have gained permission to open but we have to complete the building of a fence around both our schools so that we can control access. To do this we need 600m of fencing at £12 per metre installed. Please could you help?
Donations can made through our Website https://loveuganda.com/
Thank you.

Our team have been out in the villages distributing food supplies. This video show the team at work and the state of some of the homes. Due to the generosity of everyone here in the UK & USA we were able to provide 45 families with a food pack this week. Thank you.
Next week we will increase that to 50 families.
It cost £15 per family for a pack of maize flour / sugar / salt / beans & soap, if you would like to help us increase the number of packs then please visit our web site https://loveuganda.com we envisage this help will be needed for 4-5 weeks to enable families to get over the problems of flooding and COVID lockdown.
Thank you so much everyone who is helping us with this new venture.

COVID / Flood Food Pack – Love in Action

Water Levels are rising in Lake Victoria to record Levels and Uganda has had an excessive rainfalls over the past few months. This has flooded some of the villages around our schools, this has destroyed their crops which they rely on for food. Combined with the current lockdown beause of COVID19 these families need urgent help.

We are putting together food packs comprising Maize Flour, Beans, Salt, Rice, Sugar & Soap to last a family for about a week. Each pack cost £15. Please help us feed a family for a week (or more)?

To donate please go to https://loveuganda.com/product/covid-flood-food-pack/

I have not written about the situation in Uganda for a while but now I would like to bring you up to date with the situation as I understand it.

On 18th March the President declared that all schools in Uganda had to close the next day, so we sent all the pupils home, except the Hosanna Youth that we are responsible for. They are living in our 2 homes in Masaka cared for by our staff. Our teaching staff are scattered in their homes but are providing work for all the pupils we can reach at this time. The government has also sent some self study materials to all the villages country wide for the children to continue learning. Unfortunately, our both schools have been given one copy per subject! Now it is our responsibility to photocopy that work and distribute to all the students who live in the villages around our schools! It is going to be some hard work! There are also some lessons being taught on radios and televisions but unfortunately most of our children do not have televisions and radios in their home and do not have power also! So, they are missing out on that.

All public transport has stopped, and private cars are not allowed on the roads. Most shops are closed and the order was that food shops could stay open, but only if the staff slept on the premises. The rules have been slightly relaxed now and some other shops allowed to open.

There is a strictly enforced curfew from 7pm – 6.30am. As from Tuesday next week anyone moving outside their home will have to wear a face mask. The borders have all been closed with only trucks being allowed in. There have only been 122 cases registered in Uganda with no deaths, nearly all of these cases have been people coming in from outside, mostly truck drivers.

To compound the problems the water level in Lake Victoria has now risen to record levels and many homes in fishing villages have been flooded, including Makonzi where our fishing boat is based. Some residents have moved their home further inland and others have relocated to a camp that local authorities have established. Also part of the village (Bwami) and road just before Kasaka have been flooded (about 2ft high) and some houses have fallen down already and others may fall down any time!

Please pray for Noah and our team as we all consider our response to the problems they are facing.

Rising Lake Victoria waters swallow more villages

These are the villages around our school, the Kasaka mentioned is where our school is situated. The school has not been flooded. We will have more news on Monday.

monitor.co.ug The floods first submerged the landing sites of Lambu, Kaziru, Kisuku, Malembo and Kachanga, forcing 20,000 people to relocate to safer places on the mainland where they have since set up makeshift
