Hon Fred Opolot the Pingire county member of Parliament embarks on fighting food insecurity in his constituency. During his county tour last month, Opolot noted that the biggest challenge facing many households was food insecurity. The problem was associated with the deteriorating quality of NAROCAS variety of cassava which farmers claim rots very first in the garden and can't stay beyond one year. The community of Odapakol gave the MP shocking testimonies that called for immediate attention.
Today, Hon Fred Opolot through his philanthropy organization Opolot Fred Foundation introduced a one Acre improved cassava stem multiplication program in Pingire County, distributing planting materials worth one acre to support development of one mother garden per village.
This support covered 49 village groups that will multiply the new variety called NARO 193 which is believed to be high yielding and more resistant as compared to other varieties.
The offer was received by the village VSLA groups who will work to ensure success of the program across the county.
Congratulations to Hon Fred Opolot.
