The journey toward a brighter educational future for the Bupoto community has begun. We are excited to announce the ongoing preparations for the establishment of Honors College–Matuwa, a new institution set to open its doors in 2027.

This initiative is firmly rooted in a long-standing need within our community. For many years, learners in Bupoto have had to walk long distances in search of quality education—an obstacle that has affected access, safety, and academic progress. Honors College–Matuwa aims to bridge this gap by bringing a nurturing and academically rich environment closer to home.

Our vision is to create a center of excellence that fosters innovation, character, and opportunity for every learner. As preparations advance, we look forward to partnering with families, local leaders, and stakeholders to build a school that will shape future generations.

More updates will follow as we move together toward 2027.

Of all regions, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of about 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of about 12 and 14. According to UIS data, almost 60% of youth between the ages of about 15 and 17 are not in school.

Without urgent action, the situation will likely get worse as the region faces a rising demand for education due to a still-growing school-age population.

Around 70% of Ugandans are unemployed and only half of all children go to primary school. Just one in 20 go on to secondary school. Young children are on the streets instead of in the classrooms. We are not giving them the opportunity to learn and they will struggle to get jobs when they grow up.
