Famous people in our profession.
as we had posted mid last year that Land surveying is one of the oldest profession that goes back 3000years ago and still goes nowhere to ending---today we focus on one of the famous surveyor's Captain James Cook.
He was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. Cook made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands.
He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved.
Cook's 12 years sailing around the Pacific Ocean contributed much to European knowledge of the area.
Captain James Cook is one of the most famous surveyors in the world, because he is one of the first who sailed into every ocean and surveyed all the areas he discovered. He used a set of surveying equipments – a brass telescopic, a theodolite and small station flags. Captain Cook is also one of the first English to step on every major continent in the world and the first to cross both the Antarctic and Arctic Circles.
