The International Law Institute - African Centre for Legal Excellence (ILI-ACLE) is honoured to have hosted senior lawyers from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority this month at an aviation law training program that covered global aviation competition/anti-trust law and legal and regulatory aspects of unmanned aircraft systems. This training falls under the executive education programs that ILI-ACLE offers in partnership with the Georgetown university law center .

Leading the program were the two course advisors, Sarangua Davaadorj, a lawyer and banker with over 25 years experience in commercial transactions globally, and Dean Griffith, aviation regulatory lawyer at Jones Day. They are supported by in-person facilitators: Dolores Mutyaba, former manager of economic regulation at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and Faraji Ssenkooto, air navigation services inspector also at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

The aviation competition/anti-trust sessions feature presentations from Daniel Metz, competition law specialist based in Austria, Jadamba Chuluunaa, aviation lawyer based in Mongolia, Kuria Waithaka, corporate, commercial and aviation lawyer based in Kenya, and Dr. Gordon Blanke, arbitration specialist with experience in competition/anti-trust based in Dubai and London.

We are delighted to have back Judge Zafar Iqbal Gondal leading this week's online Legislative Drafting Diploma sessions for the Bank of Uganda and providing much appreciated invaluable tips on issues related to tax law drafting and interpretation of tax laws amongst other topics.

Judge Zafar Gondal is one of the three course advisors for the programme and is a former judge turned policy and legislative advisor and strategic project manager. He is an established rule of law and development law practitioner, who has well over three decades of practical field experience as a judge, attorney and public prosecutor in Pakistan, anti-corruption advisor, international law and development advisor, and public policy and legislative drafting expert providing technical advice and training in numerous jurisdictions around the world.

As we come towards the end of the eighth week of the bespoke diploma programme, we continue to value the opportunity to host and engage with the legal department of the Bank of Uganda.

We were honoured to have Melida Hodgson (Partner, Jenner & Block LLP) listening to the arguments from the two teams as they discussed.
