The School:

Kampala International School Uganda offers an international education to students between 2 and 19 years of age. Students come from almost 60 different nationalities and, depending on the family’s contracts and nature of their work, stay in Uganda for varying lengths of time. The school is privately owned with an Advisory Board of Governors and the day to day running of the school is

managed by the Director. Facilities:

The school was formerly known as Kabira International School and moved to its present site in September, 2008. The school is centrally located in Kampala and is situated on 14 acres of land. It has been purposely built to accommodate over 1000 students increasing in line with the development of Kampala and Uganda. There are four science labs, three computer labs, three practice music rooms, three performance areas, and indoor gym, outdoor basketball court, 25 m eight lane competition pool, two libraries, five acres of playing fields and smart boards in most classrooms. Location:

The school is ideally situated within easy travelling distance from prime residential locations and is only 15 minutes from the city centre by car. Faculty:

There are 58 full-time teaching staff recruited from countries around the world. International recruitment takes place at the Search and CIS fairs. There are ongoing opportunities for staff development through inset days, online training and visiting professionals. Initial contracts are for two years and many international staff extend on a yearly basis. Curriculum:

The school adapts the English National Curriculum for the Primary School and until Year 9 in the Secondary School. After that, our students study for the internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE (examined in Y11) and IB Diploma (examined in Y13). The curriculum ensures that rigorous educational standards are maintained and that progression of educational experience is monitored. The IB Diploma is generally regarded as the university entrance programme of choice often preferred above national requirements. The curriculum has been adapted to reflect the international diversity of our school community and its location in Uganda. Students:

The school has a rich resource in the nature and diversity of its students. However the suitability of the school for each student is assessed upon entry, to ensure that KISU can meet their needs. All students from Year 3 (7 years old) upwards spend time on outdoor education trips, staying overnight for varying lengths of time; each student swims once a week and takes part in all activities. The school is able to provide for students with mild learning difficulties. Students must have a degree of fluency in English to enter Year 9. ESL/ESOL provision can be given before this year. Students have to demonstrate their suitability for the IB Diploma Programme, through IGCSE examination results or equivalent.
