A TEACHER'S VOICE.
I want to thank the president for the wonderful decisions made to extend the lockdown following guidance from experts, I really commend you for standing strong in the fight against COVID-19.
Now my issue concerns food distribution to the affected people under this current situation in the fight against COVID-19 especially on side of monthly salary earners....
In this particular case you pointed out an example of teachers but my information to you and the your advisors is that teachers fall into two categories i.e private and government .
For the government teachers it's very okay for them just as you stated.
But for the teachers in private schools their salary is the fees from the students...now this is a case where the schools closed prematurely without clearance of fees by majority of the Learners, in fact it was at the point when schools were preparing to send home this students to bring the fees.
My points are now here.
1.Majority of the schools in the private sector are grappling with teachers salaries due to nature of the parents who pay fees for students in them where by some take 2-3 months without paying trs.
2. Schools closed in the middle of the month when students had not paid the fees balances that would the last half of the term.
3. Majority of the private schools don't pay teachers in the holidays.
4.Teachers earn a meagre salary in this Schools .
5. Teachers contracts differ from school to school.. some pay per month, some per week, some per day and some per lesson etc..
6. There's a teacher who had not been paid in the past one, two or three months or weeks ago before covid-19 situation..
7.Some schools still pay their teachers in hands where proof of signature has to be done, and guess what?..we are in the quarantine.
8.Where are the Directors going to raise money to pay their teachers.
9. I don't know whether when you where making the statement you took note of this conditions above that teachers go through in the private sector.
10. UNATU. needs to come on board to speak for the teachers in such situations.

Lastly a good teacher makes a doctor and all other professionals including the parliamentarians but unfortunately they are forgotten in every aspect of national importance.
