Food for thought...
The end of the term is always bittersweet. We miss the children dearly but all work without play makes us all very dull. Happy holidays everyone!!!
PS. Admissions for next term are now open! Contact us on 0774707664 for more information.
In our line of work, there's nothing quite as rewarding as the satisfied look on a child's face after successfully completing a task/assignment or overcoming an obstacle on his/her own. Our children make us feel so proud! We love our job!
Counting down to the start of second term. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Circle time is a great opportunity for the children to learn and practice seemingly simple 'Grace and courtesy' which doesnt always come naturally to them. Today's grace and courtesy lesson was on how to share the building blocks even when you really want them all to yourself :-)

This morning we chatted to the children about other children who do not have homes and have to live on the streets.
Brycen thought it would be a good idea to give these children sweeties, but we all mutually agreed to make for them a card and give them some coins so they can feel special.
So we made our cards and stuck coins onto them.
Now, it is up to our mommies and daddies to help us deliver these cards to the homeless children on the streets.

This week's Act of Kindness!
The kids are sooo excited about this activity for tomorrow.
Children will always feel like secret kindness ninjas when and leave money for someone that needs it.
We are going to make these pretty cards and stick some coins on them. We need mommies and daddies to drive the children to a place that might hace some homeless people or street children.
Doing acts of kindness with your kids has so many benefits. Kids learn about compassion and empathy and start to develop a sense of responsibility for their world.
You are all free to take part in this activity with us. You may choose to send us a picture of how it turns out. :)
Have Fun!

Yesterday our 10 year old little sister unavoidably took the school bus and came home at around 7.40pm from school. To my suprise, she wasn't even the last child on the bus. There were around 7 other children that were yet to be dropped back home.
On top of that, she had 2 subjects of homework to complete before she had to eat supper, have a bath and go to bed.
My question to teachers, school heads and whoever is concerned is: when do these kids get to be kids. When do they get to learn the important things in life? How will our children ever learn to be great cooks when they get home at 6pm to find that the food has already been cooked? When do they get to sit down with their parents and listen to stories or tell stories about the day? How are they supposed to make their beds every morning when they have to be up by 5am in order to be in school at 7am in time for the oh so great morning work?
I do not understand how a child is the first one to get out of the house and the last one to get home in the evening.
Children in P.7 are treated as though the world will end of they do not study enough so they need to read hard and SAVE THE WORLD! Mind you, these are 11-12 year old children. Yet, they are in class well past 6pm- mbu studying. What is a 12 year old doing in class at 6pm? An adult's work day becomes a drag after lunch time and we cannot wait for the clock to strike 4pm so we can get into our cars and go home to relax. But somehow, we expect our children to be ninjas and take one for the team.
Don't even get me started on Saturday and holiday classes.
If this education system came with a guarantee that any child who partakes in it will automatically be set for life- be rich and successful, I would be the first to sign up. But needless to say, they are subject to unemployment and mediocrity, just like the rest of the world.
Surely, we should not work so hard for mediocrity. With the amount of hard work and effort our children put into school, they deserve to be destined for great things.

Samuel sat at this work station for 3 minutes today. Amazing how much a child can develop in 3 days given the right environment.

Oh our darling boy Brycen. He sat down in the doorway and struggled to put his shoes on his feet. He then jumped up to make sure they were on tight...that's when he noticed me taking a picture and smiled.
The first thing an adult would see here is that the child has put on kibaliga (banana feet).
What we are supposed to see however is that he actually put them on all by himself without asking for help and he was so proud of himself when he managed.
Telling him he didnt put tyem on right would only shutter his confidence and make him feel like a failure.

100 Acts of love Project..
Today only Samuel, Brycen and Henrietta chose to do the art activty.
Here is a Heart Wreth that will be given to a person of each child's liking to hang up on their door. That way, each time they enter or exit a door, they are reminded of how much the child loves them.
(Naturally, all the children chose to give the wreths to their mommies and daddies)
Montessori @ Home mums and dads are just too blessed, don't you think?

WHAT A WONDERFUL FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!
Our theme this week is Love so we used this as an excuse to start our 100 acts of love project.
The children learnt a lot about love today, mostly how to show the love they feel. We all agreed that it is our mommies and daddies that we love most in the world, so they would be the first people we showed love to this year.
We made love hearts that turn into beautiful birds when folded in half and we wrote sweet messages on them to tell our mommies and daddies that we love them.
Such a lovely suprise for mummy and daddy, don't you think?
What is your act of love today?

Week 1 Challenge
Hide 5 love notes in secret places where your family members can find them.
Start this out by...
1. Cutting out some hearts or decorating some pre-cut hearts and write a simple note on them (or have an adult write while you dictate also works)
2. Sneak around the house quietly and put your sweet notes in hiding spots where your siblings or mom and dad might not see them right away.
If you're doing this activity with a class of students, have them cut out 5 hearts and write notes and then take them home and hide them. If you are a parent helping your kids with this, help each child to cut out 5 hearts and write simple notes on them and then hide them. Don't be surprised if your toddler hides all 5 in one spot.
We plan to also do these for our spouses but write a little compliment on each one. Older kids could get more creative and write more detailed kind notes too.
BE CREATIVE with where you hide these notes! Try and put one or two in places that won't be found for a little bit like inside shoes, deep inside a drawer, or in a page of your child's/siblings favorite book.
If you want your toddler to hide their notes in more than one spot, model how to hide them and then have them copy you. They may put their notes in the exact same places you did, but then they'll at least be more spread out instead of all only in one spot.

One thing that brings family happiness and peace is spreading kindness! Although we like to be kind all year long, during the month of February and March we love to kick off 26 days of kindness!
Our 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He asked...
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'
During our challenge this month we are going to help teach our kids to look outward and be kind and DO MORE for others in simple ways.
What is the 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge?
Between Feb 10th and March 13th we invite you to join us and work together with your kids, students, grand kids, or friends, etc. to accomplish 100 Acts of Kindness!
Each day we'll share some ideas with you to help you accomplish this challenge.
Each week we will also issue a special Kindness Challenge for you to try and accomplish that week! These are usually my favorite part of the series.
Come check in with us each day over on Facebook and tell us some of the kind acts that your kids have done.

To all our working parents!
Montessori at Home is introducing a daycare Center starting 2015.
The Montessori at Home Daycare Center is different from most. We provide a Montessori environment that serves the purpose of stimulating your child's physical, emotional and mental growth.
With our Teacher's Taxi, we will fetch your children from home at a convenient time of the morning (between 7am and 10am) and take them to the daycare center. We shall give them a bath, give them breakfast, entertain them, provide stimulating activities and materials, give them lunch, afternoon tea, supper and a bath in the evening. We will bring them home in their Pyjamas all nice and ready for bed (between 6pm and 7pm)
The Teacher's Taxi is safe for children of all ages. Infants and toddlers will be transported in car seats and the older children will be transported with seat belts on.
We will be the nannies you can trust.
All our daycare center care givers are mothers with Montessori training and First Aid training certificates. They have been screened and carefully by the M@H team so you can trust that whatever age your child is, they will be in the best hands.
The Daycare Center will be taking in children from the ages of 6 months to the age of 3 years.

We will pick your child up from your office and bring them bring them back if your home is out of our Teacher's Taxi route.

Little miss happy! Took this when she was all buckled up and ready to leave. Evidence of a child who already loves her new school!

Luke is such a happy and friendly child. Always smiling or laughing. We are more than delighted to have him join us in January.

Jemarlee was so excited to see her name for the first time. Her mommy helped her paint it out with glitter glue.

This little girl visited M@H with her mommy last week. She sat down and painted the entire time we were speaking to her mommy. She is only 13 months.

It is never too early to learn how to cook.
Most parents, with busy schedules, don't have the time to cook with their children at home and are even more discouraged when facing the mess that follows. Little Cooks Club allows children between the ages of 1 and 6 years a chance at being creative in the kitchen.
Many educational skills are covered in the programme:
• Language skills: terminology, foods, equipment and following instructions
• Tactile: the sense of touch is a very important sense to develop for little ones
• Maths skills: measuring, weighing and counting
• Colours, shapes, textures and art
• Science: how the properties of food change
• Social skills: teamwork which encourages self-esteem
• Fine Motor Skills when cutting, mixing, mashing, separating, rolling and pouring.
All this happens under the guidance of professional teachers.
