Uganda is facing a specialist healthcare crisis that you could help solve.
According to Uganda’s National Education and Training for Health Policy, 2025, the country’s doctor-to-patient ratio stands at 1:25,000 — far below the WHO recommended minimum of 1:1,000.
That gap means:
- Longer waiting times
- Delayed diagnoses
- Overstretched hospitals
- Communities without access to specialist care
By 2030, Uganda will need 167,765 skilled health workers.
Institutions like Uganda Martyrs University Nsambya Postgraduate Medical School are helping build that future by training the next generation of surgeons, physicians, radiologists, emergency specialists, and medical leaders.
Applications are now open for the August 2026 intake: 🎓 7 MMed Programmes
📅 Deadline: 22 May 2026

Uganda Martyrs University is pleased to announce the official opening of the 2026 Chaplaincy Short Course.
This year's programme brings together participants from three cohorts, each at a different stage of their formation journey, united by a shared commitment to spiritual care, community service, and pastoral renewal.
The opening ceremony was graced by our Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Christopher Mukidi, who reminded participants of the urgency of their call:
"We live in a rapidly changing world marked by social transformation, technological advancement, cultural shifts, and many spiritual challenges. The ministry of chaplains today requires much more than goodwill."
Guest of Honour Vicent Mutahunga, President of the UMU Alumni Association and Founder of Beyond Basketball Foundation, brought grounded wisdom to the room, drawing on his years of community work to challenge participants to lead with empathy, accompaniment, and presence. He called on chaplains to go where people are, earn trust through genuine relationships, and above all, carry hope as their core offering.
This cohort will be equipped across three areas:
→ Care and counselling skills
→ Crisis response and trauma support
→ Community engagement and personal resilience
Uganda Martyrs University was founded to serve the Church and the community. This course is a direct expression of that mission.
We welcome every participant and look forward to the impact they will carry into the communities they serve.
