What is insurance?
At its core, insurance is about managing uncertainty. It is a promise to stand with you when the unexpected happens, protecting what matters most and giving you the resilience to move forward. Insurance is more than a policy; it is a safety net that helps individuals and businesses stay resilient, no matter what comes their way.

: Insurance agents have convened at Hotel Africana for the to explore what it means to become champions of protection in the new insurance.
Speaking on the panel topic “ITC’s Role in Nurturing and Empowering a Purposeful Agent in the New Era,” Saul highlighted a critical issue at the heart of the industry: trust. Insurance agents remain the primary interface with the public, shaping perceptions of the entire sector. As emphasized, rebuilding trust requires deeper reflection on why clients hesitate to engage, alongside a commitment to transparency, and delivering on the promises made to them.
He also noted the evolving industry dynamics, including the rise of bancassurance, where trust is increasingly shifting toward financial institutions, signaling the need for agents to elevate standards and reinforce their value.
ITC continues to invest in:
• Programmes integrating AI, digital tools, and ESG principles
• Technology-driven learning, including data literacy and digital transformation programmes for insurance professionals
• Accessible learning, with 70% of short-term trainings offered free of charge
• Mentorship and leadership programmes designed to guide and empower agents throughout their careers
The conversation also highlighted the critical role of data protection, with insights from National Information Technology Authority-Uganda emphasizing the importance of consent, accountability, and safeguarding client information across all touchpoints.
In addition, Rita Namakiika Nangono shared key perspectives on the Insurance Appeals Tribunal process, cautioning agents against overpromising in pursuit of premiums—an approach that ultimately erodes trust and leads to disputes.
Events like these reinforce the importance of continuous learning, collaboration, and integrity in shaping a more trusted and resilient insurance industry.
