At Shoma, This is what we mean when we talk about Comprehensive Nurture; Beyond doing paces in the Learning Centre, there is also a lot to learn from the outside. We conduct outreaches to places and people with special needs to enable our students be able to appreciate life but also share in what we have. We appreciate Compassion as a Christian core value which was demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ. We also believe that it is stress relieving to move out of school once in a while. At our students had an interesting interaction moment which we believe will forever be for their memory.

This is why you need a Christian School with a Christian Curriculum for Comprehensive Nurture.

40 Lent Devotional: Even in the grave, He is Lord!

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/WGBsPWc-YSQ

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants. Truly I am your servant, LORD... I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the LORD - in your midst, Jerusalem. Praise the LORD. (Ps 116:15-19)

He was so prophesied as the LORD's faithful servant, and Jesus served God's will to the very end, including drinking the cup of suffering and going to the grave. While in the grave, Jesus was worshipped by many who still called Him 'Lord'; he was also feared by those who killed him. Although his grave was sealed and guarded, it could not be his end. At the right time, the Father raised Him to victory - up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph over His foes. Indeed, even in the grave, He is Lord!

His victory in rising to new life was to complete your redemption. We are left with no excuse - we are called to believe in Him and continue in faith. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

39 Lent Devotional: Surely, He was the Son of God

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/UE8OGLaZuV8

When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"

All the ugliness in Psalm 22 happened to Jesus on the fateful day he was killed: he was mocked and insulted; dangerous strong bulls surrounded him; dogs and a pack of villains encircled him and pierced his hands and feet; they cast lots for his garment; He felt really forsaken, and cried out to God in hot anguish! But, at the same time, God's power was displayed in terms so clear that even the executioners could not deny Jesus' true identity. We have the opportunity to exclaim with the centurion, 'Surely, He was the Son of God'. Indeed amidst all the ugliness, the psalm embeds hopeful prayers and a bright ending which far outlasts the troubles then: God has done great things.

But you, LORD, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me. Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it! (Ps 22:19,30-31)

38 Lent Devotional: The Tough Last Supper

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/IUsg5hfp7sk

"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1Cor 11:26)

Unlike the last supper you really enjoyed after the long time away, looking forward to returning home, and unlike that last supper the day before your boarding school term ended, Jesus' last supper was very tough! He ate it with his disciples as they commemorated the Passover - another not so easy last supper; the Israelites of Moses' day had known no other life than slavery, and now Moses gave such detailed instructions for them to observe a last supper? 'Where are we going? How shall it be?' - They must have asked... Nonetheless, it turned out to be - at least for those who observed the instructions.

As for Jesus, his was made very tough because he was staring death in the face; he emotionally told his disciples it was his last supper until, until, until he they eat and fellowship in the Father's Kingdom - another place. Let not your last supper be Tough. Put your hope and full trust in Jesus Christ, that you will not miss this fellowship in that everlasting Kingdom.

37 Lent Devotional: Prayer, Legacy, Extravagant Love for the Master

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/4r__N0B-WVg

"Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." (Matt 26:13)

Before Jesus Christ commended the woman and announced this as her lasting legacy, he made an intriguing comment mixing sorrow with joy. The woman poured very expensive perfume on Jesus, and the disciples complained (Matt 26:6-13). Jesus' rebuttal and justification for the woman's action shows that the Master received and enjoyed the love and worship expressed in the perfume offering - it brought so much joy to the Lord; but in the same breath, Jesus talks about his burial - as if his mind is preoccupied by the sorrowful challenges ahead, the imminent betrayal, denial, trial, crucifixion and burial.

It is common to be preoccupied by challenges, just as Jesus was - and David in Ps 39 expresses a similar mood with accompanying wrestling with God. And just as David broke down and expressed his hope in God (v.7), we find Jesus never despairing. In prayer he is confident that God will take him through to victory. Today's meditation encourages us to pray and depend on God, and in pouring extravagant Love on our Lord Jesus Christ is the lasting legacy.

36 Lent Devotional: Like Jesus, Be Determined to Win!

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/Bj0OJbIdx9A

There is a reason why you should be determined to win in life and in faith.
Jesus was determined to carry out His Father's will and win - even when he knew he was going into dangerous war zone, he was determined to go - assured of victory through it all. He was going to the place where he would be betrayed by a close friend, persecuted by the political establishment, tried and sentenced without real justice; he was going to the place where he would eventually be crucified and buried! Yet he was determined go - all so that he would provide a way for your salvation.

Luke 9:51 records the fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah - I like the expression that shows unwavering determination: 'set my face like a stone'! Like Jesus, Be Determined to Win!
"Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do His will. And I know that I will not be put to shame." (Isaiah 50:7 NLT)

“For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will… surround you…and dash you to the ground… because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Luke 19:43-44)

“Look carefully then how you walk… making the most of the time, because the days are evil… do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Eph 5:15-17)

34 Lent Devotional: Surprise! The death of the Messiah?

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/2aecDaVPi8I

When Jesus predicted his suffering and death,
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" (Matt 16:22)
Who would be interested in a dying Messiah? But it turns out even more surprisingly - as that death gives life to all who believe. Sing and celebrate a little with Charles Wesley - and more in this video:

1 And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

4 Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

5 No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

33 Lent Devotional: O God our help in ages past...

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/CSt2BpWZ7nA

Our help is in the Name of the Lord God, today and tomorrow!
A great hymn from Psalm 90 – by Isaac Watts:
1 O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2 Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3 Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4 A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6 O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us-- yes, establish the work of our hands. (Ps 90:14-17)

32 Lent Devotional: God's Active Character - The Character Rhythm 25/03/2021

32 Lent Devotional: God's Active Character - The Character Rhythm

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/btqGbyg_gkw

We have a Character Rhythm for purposes of God's divine revelation, and human confession; it is commonly used in praise, prayer for help, repentance and renewal, forgiveness, warnings to remain faithful, and prophetic judgment.

The character rhythm captures the ubiquitous references to passages that describe God in his active character, in the continuous present tense - such as ‘Lord of hosts’, ‘God Almighty’, ‘Judge of all the earth’, or ‘King of glory’. This is in contrast to the narrative rhythm in which God is described by what he did in the past - events, experiences, what God has done - such as ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’.

This passage that brings our God's Active Character eventually became a creedal confession (read it at least three times, and respond in prayer):
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” (Exod 34:6-7)

31 Lent Devotional: Extravagant Love for the Master

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/wy-hVcFxhpg

Human beings are created generous. He may be mean at home, but he will be generous to some strangers out there; he may be mean in some group or at work, but maybe he will be very generous with some family members...
But what makes generosity count? To whom should our generosity be directed most? The Lord Jesus Christ deserves more love and generosity than the poor or any would-be recipients of your love.

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
And whoever welcomes one such child *in my name* welcomes me.
"[Cornelius,] Your *prayers* and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God." (John 12:3, Matt 18:5, Acts 10:4)

Love the Lord first, then love others – for this will be more fulfilling and most rewarding. Give your extravagant love to the Master.

30 Lent Devotional: Receiving Comfort, Managing Grief 23/03/2021

30 Lent Devotional: Receiving Comfort, Managing Grief

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/v4eDc3hCCRc

Lent – a time of prayer and fasting – helps us to partially mimic times of grief and experience the grace of God to carry us through. Jesus is never absent!

Losing something may bring much grief and feel almost as hurtful as losing a loved one. Lost a job? Disappointed by family or a close friend? A relationship gone sour? Or even lost good health and getting incapacitated?
As you journey through that grief season, remember that Jesus has never been absent. Martha's 'if you had been here' was seriously challenged:

"Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord," she replied, "I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world." (John 11:21,25-27)

Yes, there is hope. Do not despair. May the LORD Almighty comfort and carry you through, and end you in a big testimony.

29 Lent Devotional: Why Jesus did not Marry 22/03/2021

29 Lent Devotional: Why Jesus did not Marry

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/HBYCeSh5NwM --

A reflection on marriage should send us to our need for self-control - a discipline that may be deliberately cultivated through fasting. A lack of this virtue leaves our world with fatherless children, broken relationships, fighting step-relatives, and much more...
Jesus Christ was fully covered when it comes to the benefits of marriage. The highest place to which He is now exalted in the Father's presence is where we should continually focus as our destination, and thereby walk through this life in a way that will lead us there. See the great humility and self-control exhibited by Jesus Christ...

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-- even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name (Php 2:6-9)

28 Lent Devotional: Ultrasonic Orders: The Deaf Hear? 20/03/2021

28 Lent Devotional: Ultrasonic Orders: The Deaf Hear?

Today's Devotional: https://youtu.be/n2k0MGeOjVw

While the human ear can only ear sound waves between the frequencies of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, only those under 24 years old can hear 17kHz; those above 40 years can't even 15kHz! Now there is a risk if God ever uses such ultrasonic frequencies! Can you hear the voice of God?

"and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice." (John 10:3-4)

It takes discipline to hear right. Tune in, Listen and Follow the Good Shepherd. How come you sort of hear it, but you hear another voice and obey it? Tell the truth / no, tell the lie, you will be safer / Tell the truth / You’re dead, just tell the little lie and get out of this trouble!
That captivating stranger's voice has brought down many disciples. Beware!

The sheep of the good Shepherd listen… follow… know the voice… in the exercise of the graces of humility, love, patience, self-denial, and resignation of will to the will of God.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- (John 10:10,14)

It takes discipline to hear right. Tune in, Listen and Follow the Good Shepherd - in career direction, in relating with friends, in offering yourself for service, in purity commitments…
