Woman Aid Foundation Woman Aid Foundation (WA Foundation) is a registered non-governmental organisation that is promotin WA Foundation believes that this approach is sustainable.

Woman Aid Foundation (WA Foundation) is a fully registered Non Governmental Organisation mandated to implement its activities throughout Uganda. It works with both rural and urban communities to promote girls’ education and women empowerment. The organization is premised on the belief that women empowerment cannot be achieved unless girls are educated. This is one of the arguments behind WA Founda

tion’s focus on girls’ education. There is need to support girls to attain education in order to achieve women empowerment. Because rural girls are more vulnerable to early marriage, early pregnancies and all the associated challenges, WA Foundation invests most of its efforts in the rural communities. It is impossible to achieve women empowerment without paying attention to rural girls’ education. This mandate will be achieved through partnerships with school authorities, communities, parents/families, like minded organisations and local authorities, among others. Since most rural parents cannot afford to send their daughters to private schools that provide better education, WA Foundation has prioritised working with rural girls within the government system of free Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary education. This is to ensure that girls’ academic performances are improved with their local schools and environment. Likewise, WA Foundation is also targeting rural women. Rural women contribute massively to the well-being of their families and communities at large. WA Foundation believes that a disempowered mother is more likely to raise disempowered daughters. This means that in order to make impact on the girls, there is need to focus on the women, who in most cases are the mothers to the rural girls. WA Foundation will focus its efforts towards the economic empowerment of the women and other relevant areas. Vision: A world where women and men have equal opportunities. Mission: To promote women advancement through girls’ education and women’s economic empowerment for social-economic transformation.

The IWD is a great idea! But the question remains; how can it be made more meaningful to the rural women and girls? Any suggestions?
