Ss Perpetua and Felicity, Martyrs
Psalm 118/119 : 1-2, 4-5, 7-8
They are happy who follow God’s law!
1st Reading – Deuteronomy 26 : 16-19
Moses said to the people: 'The Lord your God today commands you to observe these laws and customs; you must keep and observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. You have today made this declaration about the Lord; that he will be your God, but only if you follow his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and listen to his voice. And the Lord has today made this declaration about you: that you will be his very own people as he promised you, but only if you keep all his commandments; then for praise and renown and honour he will set you high above all the nations he has made, and you will be a people consecrated to the Lord, as he promised.'
Gospel – Matthew 5 : 43-48
Jesus said to his disciples: 'You have learnt how it was said: You must love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I say this to you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you; in this way you will be sons of your Father in heaven, for he causes the sun to rise on bad men as well as good, and his rain to fall on honest and dishonest men alike. For if you love those who love you, what right have you to claim any credit? Even the tax collectors do as much, do they not? And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional? Even the pagans do as much, do they not? You must therefore be perfect just as your heavenly Father is perfect.’
Reflection:
Today we celebrate the memorial of Ss Perpetua and Felicity, two very early martyrs (AD-203), who though forced, refused to renounce their faith. They were flogged and beheaded by gladiators. In the Gospel Jesus leaves us no loophole to escape the challenge to love our enemies. The words themselves reveal this to us – we must “bless”, “pray”. He looks at mankind from God’s viewpoint; God loves all His children and showers His gifts on all: His radiant sun, His life-giving rain. To love people with whom we spontaneously agree, who love or resemble us, all this is quite natural! But God asks more of us. He asks us to widen our hearts beyond the circle of our friends, relatives or milieu. Jesus is the first to love His enemies and pray for them.
Lord, come into my heart; make me love those I do not love, even those who cause me harm.
LOVE THOSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO LOVE
Stand fast in the faith, love one another, and do not let our suffering be a stumbling-block to you – St Perpetua.
Should be good in all areas

EATING PORK IS BAD FOR YOU
________________________________
Hate it or Like it... we educate you.
Due to pigs scavenger lifestyle they harbour enormous amounts of viruses and parasites. Pigs are known to be primary carriers of pathogenic organisms that can create very serious health problems.
Pigs’ bodies are breeding grounds for harmful organism, including parasites that can transfer to humans.
These include;
– A small nematode parasite responsible for the disease trichinosis. Though most instances of trichinosis either have minor or no symptoms, high infestations can promote nausea, heartburn, diarrhea and indigestion.
– Also called the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium is an intestinal parasite characterized by its flat, ribbon-like body and ability to grow to up to eight meters (!) in length. Like regular tapeworms, pork tapeworms steal valuable nutrients from our food, often leading to persistent hunger and fatigue. In extreme cases, intestinal irritation, anemia and emaciation occur.
– A parasitic protozoa capable of infecting all warm-blooded animals. Though a Toxoplasma gondii infection rarely produces noticeable symptoms in healthy humans, it can prove fatal for people with weakened immunity (11).
Consumption of pork can also lead to several viruses in humans, including:
– A virus that can cause abdominal pain, fatigue, jaundice, fever, nausea, vomiting, aching joints and muscles, and other unpleasant symptoms. Sometimes it affects the nervous system, resulting in severe pain in the arms and legs.
– This newly-discovered virus reached headlines in 1999, when it killed 103 Malaysian people who came into close contact with infected pigs. Outbreaks of the virus are still an annual occurrence in Bangladesh, but it hasn’t reached the West yet.
– Pig influenza, better-known as swine flu, is an infection caused by certain types of swine influenza viruses. Like regular influenza, it produces symptoms like fever, lethargy, decreased appetite and difficulty breathing. In extreme cases, it can cause deaths related to respiratory failure, pneumonia and kidney failure (12).
A Consumer Reports investigation found that 69% of all raw pork samples tested were contaminated with high amounts of volatile microorganisms such as (8). This bacteria causes and stress and could potentially cause a .
***Defenders of pork love to claim that these parasites and viruses are caused by eating undercooked meat, and that all of these problems can be averted if we cook our food properly. However, this isn’t entirely true.
The sad fact is that there is no temperature at which pork can be cooked to guarantee that all these harmful organisms and their eggs are killed. Even freezing the meat doesn’t ensure that all organisms, especially certain species of worm, are killed. This is not the case with beef, lamb and other “clean” meats, which simply need to be frozen and/or cooked properly to become parasite-free (assuming they have parasites in the first place). Incidentally, even if you do manage to kill the parasites in pork…. what does that mean? You’re eating dead parasites and their eggs!***
:
Animals that “chew the cud” as it says in the bible (Leviticus 11) are called ruminants. These animals hardly chew their food when it is first swallowed. But they have four stomachs that digest and regurgitate food through a special process that allows complete digestion. The major ruminants are cows, sheep and goats.
The digestive system of a pig is unique in that it metabolizes food very quickly through one stomach in a process that takes about four hours. A cow takes twenty four hours to digest what’s eaten and it is able to get rid of excess toxins during the digestive process.
The pig’s digestive system doesn’t allow for this and the toxins are carried into the fat cells and organs of the pig itself.
Pigs also do not have sweat glands. Perspiration is a key method the body uses to for detoxification and the pig is not designed to perspire. When you consume pig meat you get all of these pathogenic microorganisms and environmental toxins into our system.
Pork is an unclean meat. Keep Off!
You can actually postpone your own funeral by discarding pig meat from your diet.
