The Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Sub-Saharan Africa component invites creatives, researchers and professionals from diverse disciplines to apply for the WP4 Visual Arts grant- Lot 2: Collaborative Research and Critical Discourse.

The grant supports teams of two or more, undertaking collaborative research and
critical discourse projects that generate and publish knowledge about visual arts. It funds rigorous inquiry into visual arts practices, contexts, histories and ecosystems.

Enno Laavu UNPlugged was electric! A great crowd came through to the GZK Basement to watch Angella Emuwronโ€™s (Angie E) 10-chapter romantic drama. The highly engaged audience enjoyed every high and low they witnessed on screen, then stayed afterwards to ask thoughtful questions for the filmmakers about their process, their inspiration, and to express what they most appreciated in the film; from the depiction of sensuality, to the use of colour, to the stunning locations where it was shot.

The energy in the room was unmatched. Thank you to everyone who showed up and made this a memorable day.

Enno Laavu UNPlugged is an invitation to lose yourself to the intoxicating romance of a Kampala love story, to get to know the characters as old friends, and to celebrate Ugandan love and Ugandan storytelling as joyous.

Enno Laavu is a romantic drama told in 10 chapters created and written by award-winning writer/director Angie Emurwon, showcasing the phenomenal artistry of Ugandan filmmakers in front of and behind the camera.

It interrogates the idea that stories donโ€™t have to be issue-based to have meaning. Often, when people are only known by their challenges, issues, and traumas, their humanity can sometimes be easily dismissed. Love stories are then powerful because they challenge the idea that I only matter because of my wounds.

The workshop will create an empowering space for participants to explore their own voices and stories, introducing practical tools for political creative writing; transforming personal experience, observation, and questions about society into compelling literary texts.

Mirrianne Mahn is a German-Cameroonian author, curator, theatre maker, and public speaker based in Frankfurt, Germany. Her acclaimed debut novel ISSA (Rowohlt, 2024) spans more than a century across four generations of women, weaving together stories of colonialism, migration, resistance, and sisterhood between Cameroon and Germany.

The 97th issue of Magma Poetry, edited by Zakia Carpenter-Hall, Elontra Hall, and Nick Makoha PhD, is in partnership with the Obsidian Foundation โ€” in conjunction with Kampala Literary Festival Kampala Writes LitFest and Nairobi Litfest โ€” and focuses on Black poets from across Africa and the diaspora. The submission window for M97: Diasporic Dialogues is open from 1st July โ€“ 31st July 2026.

The completed anthology will be showcased at the 2027 Kampala Writes Litfest.

Send your thoughtful political poems, your angry eco-poetry, your surreal lyrics and everything in between โ€” send us your best. Send us the best that the continent and diaspora has to offer. We canโ€™t wait to see the rich work that youโ€™re crafting.
