Join us on 3rd October for the opening of Silenced Belonging by Hamza Tirab. For this exhibition, he is creating a body of abstract and realist works that reflect and document violations committed during the war in Sudan.

We will have a panel discussion on ‘Migration and Belonging’ as well featuring Eynas Latef, Hamza Tirab and Towhid Tabasa, moderated by Elsadig Mohammed starting at 4:30 PM.

On Saturday 10th October from 2:00 PM we will have a zine-making workshop co-facilitated by Gloria Kiconco and Amar Jamal respond creatively to the exhibition through reflections, stories, images, and documentation. Please register to confirm attendance https://forms.gle/mHG9BSZLpfB1phaz9

Join us again on Wednesday 14th October from 7:00 PM for a film screening of Khartoum (2025) a collaborative hybrid documentary that weaves together five stories from Sudan that move between animated dreams, street revolutions, and the experience of war, tracing journeys from Khartoum to exile in East Africa.

انضموا إلينا يوم 3 أكتوبر لحضور افتتاح معرض «الانتماء المُسكت» للفنان حمزة تيراب. وفي إطار هذا المعرض، يعمل الفنان على إنتاج مجموعة من الأعمال الفنية التجريدية والواقعية التي تعكس وتوثق الانتهاكات التي ارتُكبت خلال الحرب في السودان.

كما سنعقد حلقة نقاش حول موضوع «الهجرة والانتماء» يشارك فيها إيناس لطيف وحمزة تيراب وتوحيد تاباسا، ويديرها الصادق محمد، ابتداءً من الساعة 4:30 مساءً.

Meet Hamza Tirab, the Uganda-based artist selected for Networks of Belonging: a series of exhibitions by Sudanese artists across East Africa.

Hamza Tirab is a visual artist, trainer, human rights activist, and cultural practitioner. He uses art as a tool for documentation, with a particular focus on peacebuilding, justice, identity, and the rights of women and minorities.

For this exhibition, he is creating a body of abstract and realist works that reflect and document violations committed during the war in Sudan. The resulting exhibition, titled ‘Silenced Belonging’, will function as both a memory and an advocacy platform, inviting the public to witness, reflect, and engage with the human cost of the war.

Networks of Belonging project is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Goethe-Institut Khartoum, coordinated by Goethe Zentrum Kampala. It aims to provide opportunities for Sudanese artists who have left their country due to the ongoing war.

تعرّفوا على حمزة تيراب، الفنان المقيم في أوغندا الذي تم اختياره للمشاركة في «شبكات الانتماء»: سلسلة معارض لفنانين سودانيين في أنحاء شرق إفريقيا.

حمزة تيراب هو فنان تشكيلي ومدرب وناشط في مجال حقوق الإنسان وممارس ثقافي. ويستخدم الفن كأداة للتوثيق، مع التركيز بشكل خاص على بناء السلام والعدالة والهوية وحقوق النساء والأقليات.

في إطار هذا المعرض، يعمل الفنان على إنتاج مجموعة من الأعمال الفنية التجريدية والواقعية التي تعكس وتوثق الانتهاكات التي ارتكبت خلال الحرب في السودان. وسيكون المعرض الناتج، الذي يحمل عنوان «الانتماء المُسكت»، بمثابة منصة للذاكرة والدعوة في آن واحد، حيث يدعو الجمهور إلى مشاهدة الخسائر البشرية الناجمة عن الحرب والتفكير فيها والتفاعل معها.

This exhibition is an exciting, outer-space-themed celebration of science fiction and storytelling, shining a spotlight on comic artists. Come and experience comic installations, with printed zine copies of different comics available to read at your leisure in a dedicated reading corner. It is a fun, immersive event designed to spark imagination and celebrate fresh voices in the genre.

Beyond the pages, you are also welcome to jump into the action with a live fantasy character drawing session, where you can have your very own science-fiction character brought to life. Snap photos at the alien-themed photo booth, complete with DIY props and out-of-this-world backdrops, and treat yourself to space-inspired cakes and snacks at the themed treats counter.

Apply by 30 September 2026 for the Artists Contacts programme and receive funding for international exchange in the visual arts – from exhibitions and artist residencies to research trips, workshops and conferences.
