On 12th March 2026, Makerere University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation to operationalise the Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Centre of Excellence.

The partnership brings together academia and policy leadership to strengthen Uganda’s private sector. The Centre will serve as a national platform for research, policy dialogue, entrepreneurship development, and innovation, advancing ideas and solutions that support Uganda’s economic transformation.

It also honours the legacy of the late Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, one of Uganda’s foremost economic reformers.

The MoU was signed by Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Sarah Ssali, Mrs. Betty Mutebile and Rt. Hon. Mbabazi Amama. Present at the event were Right Hon Ruhakana Rugunda, Hon. Matthew Rukikaire, Makerere Guild's 70th President and University Secretary Yusuf Kiranda, 91st President H.E. Ssentamu Churchill James, 90th President H.E. Lubega Nsamba among others.

We congratulate Prof. Ibrahim Okumu on his appointment as first Director of the Centre.
