Another interesting point to consider is that (generally speaking at least) from a spiritual standpoint, the New Covenant doesn't lessen responsibility, it increases it. The idea that this is the opposite has been a driving force of what I believe is "false faith": the idea that our responsibility and end goal are lower and less under the New Covenant than under the Old Covenant. We have a greater responsibility under the New Covenant for many reasons. We have been given more in every sense under the New Covenant... and should not be seeking to do less, but to do more with what we have been given. If this is true spiritually... why would we want to do less naturally? From a natural standpoint, the children of Israel were required to have a specific "minimum standard" in their giving. If we are going to remove this necessity, it should only be due to an increased maturity among God's people that doesn't require them to be held accountable in this way because they don't need these kind of guidelines. BUT, that would only seem to be logical if the people of God are policing their own giving, and it would seem that doing so would mean that they are giving more, not less than the minimum standard
