Mount Kenya University was ranked among top 10 universities nationally with highest number of graduates to Kenya’s job market most preferred by Kenya employers with employability rate of 18%, according to an international research agency in a report titled ‘State of Graduate Employability in Kenya’ by CPS International.
Private universities
Mount Kenya University was ranked first with about 17 per cent of students working while studying compared to six per cent at USIU, 5.8 per cent from Strathmore and both African Nazarene University and from KCA University tying at 4.9 per cent.
Most of the employers (84 per cent) interviewed consider work experience as the most important aspect when recruiting staff. Some 73 per cent named skills, hobbies and talents.
Sixty seven per cent of employers cited volunteerism while only 21 per cent considered internship to be important.

After 11 years at the helm of one of the country’s biggest private universities, Prof Stanley Waudo finally bows out to pursue other interests.
The vice chancellor of Mount Kenya University who took a six-month terminal leave beginning yesterday says his contribution to quality in higher education has paid off.
