We the members of SENDI IAN Foundation realize the vital role of sports and extra related activities in the social and economic development of children, the youths and adults in our country. We are determined to reach the children of “the last mile”—those who are economically and socially outside the reach of mainstream services and support, including street children, child laborers, AIDS orphans,
sex workers, hard-to-reach rural populations, and other vulnerable or marginalized groups of children and youths in Uganda. The organization is a holistic care programme that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable youths and women in Uganda, whose lives have been ravaged by war, poverty and disease. Founded by Sendi Ian Matovu, SENDI IAN Foundation was birthed through the Special Needs Volunteers’ Foundation; a thriving students led organization in Makere College School, Kampala, Uganda. OUR MODEL
Our model involves physical care, medical intervention including HIV/AIDS counseling and basic treatment, education-formal and technical, and trauma counseling. We are committed to raising the next generation of African leaders, by pursuing excellence in academics, sports and practical skills, integrity in conduct and moral values, so that each one becomes a responsible person and productive citizen. We aim to care for over 1000 children in Uganda by 2015 and to replicate the model in other countries across the continent so as to fast truck the rescue of orphaned and marginalized children, youths and women in Africa. As an originally founded sports academy, we use the ball as a mean of finding the above named groups. We use it to attract the children and the youths to our organization and when they come to us with all their burdens and backgrounds, we receive them and begin working on them. Because of the nature of our community, we have discovered that most of the children and youths who come to us have almost all the above problems in common and after a close working relationship with them, they lead us to their families and eventually we impact them at large using our tailor made programs designed to restore hope and dignity. Whereas the older children come to us through the many activities mainly sports, most of the children within our homes were found and rescued from streets and deserted places. These have continuously benefitted from our accommodation, feeding, education and physical development programs. CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
This includes professional sports training and talents development for children and youths within our communities. Under this project, those children of the last mile, who are socially and economically outside the reach of main stream services and support like AIDS orphans, Child laborers, Sex workers, receive descent accommodation, feeding, and education from the organization.
2. LIVING FAMILIES PROJECT
Here we identify needy families within our communities those ravaged by war, poverty and disease and support them with basic necessities such as clothes, food, health care and work with them in the set up of simple but descent shelters.
3. TRAUMA REHABILITATION
Apart from war, political violence and other traumatizing scenarios, there are other issues that affect our children and youths on a daily basis. These have affected them to such a great extent that some have hurt themselves while others have hurt the community. As an organization we have been committed to restoring humanity among such children and youths. Our efforts are geared towards reducing the levels of the effects of trauma, like low self esteem and confidence, harmful fear, violence and addictions. We are looking forward to opening a major rehabilitation centre in the country. IMMAGING OUR FUTURE
Building real homes to cater for children who have lost their family or are vulnerable for many reasons. Each family will consist of a mother who takes care of up to 10 children (2-years-old and above). Infants between the ages of 0 to 2 years-old will be taken care of at our Baby’s Home
The model is designed to meet, not only the physical needs of the child, but also to provide everything else they require to grow up healthy and whole with purpose and meaning. Physical
Children will be placed in homes where their physical needs of clothing, food and shelter are met. We will purposefully create a family setting so that they will learn love and respect as they live with their mother and siblings. This will allow them to grow up knowing a healthy, functional life. Each child will have their own bed and space to manage their belongings thereby building a sense of ownership and responsibility. Education
An education prepares children for life by developing character and career. Our homes will each contain a school for the education of the home children and those from the surrounding community. Our education will be of a good standard and we will work with parents and guardians to foster interaction with their children. Technical and vocational training will also be provided for older children, whose gifting naturally gravitates towards these. Health Care
Each home will have a medical clinic not only for the use of the home children and adult community, but it will also be available to the surrounding community. The onsite clinic will meets the everyday healthcare needs of the home and community. Sports and Talent Development
