More than a billion people live on less than a dollar a day; another 2.7 billion survive on less than two dollars. Yet even within this sliver of the world’s poorest, there is striking disparity. Women perform 66 per cent of the world’s work and produce half the world’s food, yet earn 10 per cent of the income and own 1 per cent of the property.
Youths are not only a link to the future. Youths are the present too.
Dear Entrepreneurial Leaders,
iCON joins all peace loving people in Kenya, the East African region, the continent and the world in condemning the despicable and cowardly act of those responsible for the siege of Westgate Mall in Nairobi on Saturday 21st September, 2013. Our brothers and sisters in Kenya were attacked once again by cowardly individuals who by their very nature use "terrorism, the philosophy of cowards", to maim and even kill innocent shoppers at the Westgate Mall! Ironically this attack happened the very weekend the world over was commemorating International Peace Day! Our prayers and thoughts are with all the bereaved families of 69 victims (by this morning) more than 175 injured, more than 1000 survivors, the remaining hostages who were still in bo***ge by this morning and the gallant men and women of the Kenyan Multiagency security operation who are still painstakingly trying to ensure that all the remaining hostages are released alive.
This is a new warfront that calls for vigilance at all levels and an outstanding standard of entrepreneurial leadership by each individual East African citizen. The causes of such inhuman behavior must be unearthed and addressed decisively using all means at our disposal.
iCON wishes you a safe and blessed week.
May the souls of the departed, rest in peace and may God our avenger, mete out vengeance in his own good time for ”Vengeance is mine", says the Lord.
The iCON team.

My son is an entrepreneur. That's what you're called when you don't have a Job.
If you want to be an entrepreneur, it's not a job, it's a lifestyle. It defines you. Forget about vacations, about going home at 6 pm - last thing at night you'll send emails, first thing in the morning you'll read emails, and you'll wake up in the middle of the night. But it's hugely rewarding as you're fulfilling something for yourself.
Niklas Zennstrom
For a successful entrepreneur it can mean extreme wealth. But with extreme wealth comes extreme responsibility. And the responsibility for me is to invest in creating new businesses, create jobs, employ people, and to put money aside to tackle issues where we can make a difference.
The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.
Peter Drucker
One of the definitions of a good project manager is one that takes part in the activities of a given project. But how are we going to promote this in our society? We need to engage men and boys, who are equipped with knowledge, entrepreneurial and leadership skills ready to cause change in the society and bring a difference in the nations around them.
If you don't control it, you dont own it.Control in business requires teamwork, which occurs to define the key tasks that must be handled everyday, and institute the proper controls to make sure they happen effectively and consistently
.) You Will Fail at Times
“Look forward to failure. This is how you learn to succeed. There is plenty of time to get it right — so go ahead and just do it — and get it wrong.” –Graham Phoenix
Tip 1: People want to know that you have a plan. Give them hope.
-Share your vision and inspire them daily.
- Give them the 5 most important contributions they make to your plan.
.) Stop Thinking of Your Own Wallet
“Be of service; give value. Rather than thinking “how can I make a living and make money”; think ”how can I serve and truly add value to people’s lives? How can I make a difference?” This is what Oprah and Deepak Chopra say is their driving mission.” – Rena Hedeman
Focus, Focus and Focus
“Focus on ONE NICHE! And become the expert guru in that niche with your brand. Don’t get greedy! It’s the reason most quit by spreading themselves too thin.” – George Shepherd
The Power of Connections
“Network! Make connections and keep a record on each person you meet. Ask for their advice and help. Keep in touch with them along the way and build your network before you need it! Quality relationships are the keys to the kingdom.” – Clare Dreyer
CELEBRATING A PHENOMENAL ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADER AND RECIPIENT OF THE 2011 iCON ENTREPRENEURIAL &TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
Professor James Mulwana (1936-2013).
iCON Women and Young People’s Leadership Academy (iCON) joins fellow Ugandans, East Africans and Africa to celebrate the life of one of Uganda’s and Africa’s finest Entrepreneurial Leaders.
On Tuesday 15th January 2013, Mulwana breathed his last. Despite this great physical loss we at iCON know that his spirit and ideals live on in the lives of millions of Ugandan women, men and young people whom he mentored and coached over the years.
He was a visionary and a mentor to many- both young and old; male and female. From humble beginnings and without significant formal orientation, by the time he turned 25years, Professor James Mulwana had already started a small import and export business. Since then his business prowess grew through his natural business acumen, initiative, innovation, focus, love for humanity, love for his country, a clear Pan African vision and love for God. At the time of his death his business empire now included manufacturing, agribusiness and commercial property development. Prof.James Mulwana was at the helm of many cooperate institutions and continued to influence business policy in Uganda and the region.
iCON particularly celebrates his founding role in building the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU)where as a member, iCON benefits from governance and enterprise support, networking opportunities and capacity development services.iCON has also benefited directly from James Mulwana’s wise counsel and exemplary entrepreneurial leadership. Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) is a membership organization and Uganda’s apex body for the private sector. During his lifetime Prof Mulwana was recognized by many organizations in and outside Uganda.
In 2011,iCON had the esteemed honor of recognizing Prof.James Mulwana with the iCON Entrepreneurial &Transformational Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony co-hosted with Uganda Women Entrepreneurs’ Association Limited (UWEAL) during the Month of the Woman Entrepreneur (MOWE). Every November the Month of the Woman Entrepreneur (MOWE) is observed and hosted annually by Uganda Women Entrepreneurs’ Association Limited (UWEAL).
iCON therefore, celebrates the life of this phenomenal entrepreneurial leader who run his race and run it well for 76 years!
Today Uganda has lost one of the greatest entrepreneurs RIP James Mulwana, who was one of the recipients of the iCON Entrepreneurial & Transformational Leadership Lifetime Awards in 2011. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Young people need to invest more in order to grow as more independent Entrepreneurial leaders.

Extra, extra, read all about it! This year's Noah's Ark Newspaper was printed yesterday in Kampala and Holland (Dutch version). The paper is full of new stories and photos about the children and the activities at Noah's Ark. Dave, Hosea, Dinah and Thomas clearly like it (see photo). For those of you who want a copy, please contact NACMU Nederland (if you are in Holland) and NACMU Uganda (if you are in Uganda or else where in the world). An online PDF version will soon be availble on the NACMU website.
