Enabling African students to become global citizens.

03/04/2026

Through our career club sessions in variuos secondary schools, one message has kept standing out: education must go beyond textbooks.

Secondary school students should be equipped with skills like communication, career planning, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, the skills needed to thrive in a fast-changing world.
The urgency is clear:
• Over 25% of African youth are not in education, employment, or training (UNESCO)
• Millions enter the job market each year, yet many lack employable skills (atlas.unevoc.unesco.org)
• Access to higher education remains limited, especially for disadvantaged learners (UNESCO)

These realities reinforce our mission to empower young people to enable High-Achieving, Low-Income students to access international higher education.

During our career club session at Emma High Secondary School, we focused on 21st-century skills, particularly critical thinking and problem-solving.

Students worked through real-life scenarios that required logic, creativity, and teamwork. One powerful realisation emerged: there isn’t always just one correct answer.

This shift matters. Across Africa, one-third of youth aged 15–35 are unemployed, and many lack practical skills for the workplace, underscoring the need for critical thinking and adaptability. (atlas.unevoc.unesco.org)

When students learn to think, they learn to lead.

We conducted a career session with Senior 6 students of Ebenezer Christian High School, the focus was on international university applications and expanding access to global opportunities.

Students learned:
• How to create a Common App account
• Key requirements for studying abroad
• How to prepare strong applications
• Exploring scholarships and global pathways

Unfortunately, access remains a challenge. Only about 9% of Africa’s population has access to higher education, far below the global average of 38%.
This is why equipping students with information and guidance is critical; awareness opens doors.

Career guidance is more important than ever. Studies show that skills and education mismatches are widespread among African youth, affecting job satisfaction and employment outcomes.

Many learners are unsure about which combinations align with their career goals. During our career club sessions at Ebenezer Christian High School, we explored:
• Matching subjects with career pathways
• Key factors when choosing combinations
• The importance of short- and long-term goal setting
The highlight was a vision board activity in which students creatively designed their future goals, bringing their dreams to life.

Providing structured guidance helps students make informed decisions today that shape their tomorrow.

We had the privilege of conducting a career session at Hope Senior Secondary School, with senior students, focusing on one of the most powerful 21st-century skills: communication.

Students explored how communication goes beyond words, diving into nonverbal expression, from body language to facial cues. Through interactive activities, they acted out emotions and careers without speaking while classmates guessed.

Across Africa, more than 40% of young people entering the workforce lack the skills needed for employment, highlighting the urgent need to intentionally teach life skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
